Problems with german VRR Bus und Bahn app

Hello, since August 27th the German VRR train and bus app no longer works. Previously it worked without any problems. The app can no longer be opened but crashes immediately. “VRR APP was terminated repeatedly”. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app several times. Without any change. Does anyone have any tips on what I can do? I use the APP for the deutschlandticket. I use Pixel 7 and have installed the latest update

Hallo. Seit dem 27.08 funktioniert die Deutsche VRR Bahn und Bus App nicht mehr. Vorher hat sie ohne Probleme funktioniert. Die APP lässt sich nicht mehr öffnen sondern stürzt direkt ab. “VRR APP wurde wiederholt beendet”. Habe die APP mehrfach deinstalliert und installiert. Ohne veränderung. Hat jemand ein Tipp was ich tun kann. Ich nutze die APP für das deutschlandticket. Verwende Pixel 7 und habe das aktuellste update durchgeführt

the recent update by VRR (today on 27th August 2025) has started causing the issues, i just tested it too. not really the solution but a quick work around could be to revert back the update back to (6.38.x) instead of (6.39.x) which was released today. as the previous version is still working fine (also just tested).

(i use SWK for deutschlandticket and it is working fine. if you are looking for an alternate app)

I’m using the Deutschlandticket as a physical card, and neither my phone’s hardware nor software can seem to find a way to screw that up.

sure, the easiest way is to get an older apk from a trusted source (like APKPure or any other)

→ download the apkx file from here APKPure VRR 6.38
→ search and install “xapk installer” from the App lounge/ playstore / aurora store.
→ open the “xapk installer” and install the downloaded xapk of VRR App from with the xapk installer.

let me know if it is not clear i will try to get screenshots of the step that is confusing.

I wouldn’t mark this as “the” solution. Mostly it’s a matter of time where dev’s will push the newer app-version (of course, “all for your safety”) and from that moment the older version will no longer work. So if advised, try looking for alternatives already (physical card) and start complaining @DB. This won’t last for a long time most of the time (although some apps just might). Try to file your complaint with e/OS too, they’re is a section for that.

captured a logcat of the crashing appid mentz.com.vrr_cibo_app, but stacktrace isn’t that self explanatory. Looks like flutter firebase analytics integration crashing, maybe just a faulty build? it isn’t tallied in the microg issues yet. Might be worth to send it to the developers

I did disable tracker blocking for it to not interfere.

Hey,
I had the same problem and tried the suggested solution - unfortunately it didn’ work. Same problem as before…
There are alternative ways to find out train connection and to use the D-Ticket, but the app (vrr) seems to be the only way you can use eezy-ticket.
I guess I should contact vrr… :confused:

I use the app mobil.nrw which can be used in entire NRW and also offers eezy-ticket.

Diese Probleme hatte ich auch.
Ich hatte mit der VRR App auch schon anderweitig Probleme und habe mich seit dem redundant eingerichtet nutze im Notfall die DB-NRWay App.
Die App mobil.nrw werde ich mir mal ansehen.
Da ich kein Vielfahrer bin komme ich am besten mit dem eezy-Ticket klar.
Wenn ich mal viel in einem Monat fahre und den Betrag des Deutschland-Ticket erreicht habe, fahre ich ab dann für 0€ im Bereich NRW.
