Problems with mail

Hi there,

I’m having a few problems with the mail on the desktop and on the app

I keep receiving duplicate emails from the mail app, and I don’t know why. I have Thunderbird installed and that doesn’t have the same problem, but I don’t know what settings in the mail app are causing this

The desktop email has a problem where I can display external images, but refreshing the page will hide everything again. Is there a way to permanently display images from approved senders?

Thank you in advance

can you go into both Settings → Accounts of the Android settings, and too in Mail app own settings if there somehow exist 2 mail accounts?

Mail app has

android settings has

Do I just delete the Webmail account?

Edit: I’ve just deleted the webmail part and sent a test email from my gmail to my murena account. Slow to arrive but I no longer get the double notifications. Thank you

I thought “Webmail (account@murena.io xyz)” in Anroid settings would refer to “webmail contacts”, weird

Ok it turns out that didn’t work. Webmail (myemail@murena.io OQ) has returned all by itself and so has the problem

Is there a way to just not use the mail app and use Thunderbird instead?

remove the account from built-in Mail, it shouldn’t come back by itself.

It came back

When I delete the accounts I’m sent back to the “welcome to mail” screen which has the options “import settings” or “next”. I swipe away and close the app. Hours later I get an email from both Thunderbird and the mail app. I check the accounts on the mail app and both Gmail and Murena are back

I cannot disable or archive the mail app, I cannot disable the notifications, and I cannot remove accounts without them being added back

Where?

In the Mail app > Settings > Select you@murena.io > top right 3 dot menu > Remove account

should do the job ?

what version are you on btw?

should do the job ?

That’s what I’ve been doing every single time. And I’ve just done it again

  • I remove the accounts,
  • return to the home screen, then clear all apps,
  • then go back to the mail app, all accounts are still there
  • remove all accounts again
  • return to the home screen, clear all apps
  • go back to the mail app and it crashes, open it again and get the message to force close (which I do)
  • wait for 30 mins-1 hour and it all comes back

what version are you on btw?

Mail app: Version 6.711-2

System version: 3.0.4-a15-20250708507307-official-FP6
Android 15
8 July 2025
Last checked:26 August 2025 (7:56 pm)

Build number: e_FP6-user 15 BP1A.250505.005 eng.root

Plural, is this correct?

I guess yes; but at least one is a gmail A/C ??

2 emails

  • 1 gmail
  • 1 murena

I’ve made a video to show how stupid this is. I can remove the accounts with the exact way you said to do, then the app crashes, then I force close and delete app data, then the accounts return like nothing ever happened

(the video shows indeed a behaviour that can’t be expected, will get back to this)

but: you did notice the linked solution by rahim123 in the linked forum thread for duplicate notifications in Gmail accounts?

I configured the Notifications settings in the Mail app for each Gmail account and changed Notification folders from “All” to “Only 1st Class folders”.

but: you did notice the linked solution by rahim123 in the linked forum thread for duplicate notifications in Gmail accounts?

I have done absolutely nothing that rahim123 suggested, and I’ve done nothing since making that video, and somehow the mail app now works fine. I have received 1 email this morning and there was no duplicate notifications, no crashing, no problems. My 2 accounts added themselves back as usual and I don’t want to mess up the app while it’s working

I don’t know how long that will last but if it does start all over again then I’ll update my post

Restarted my phone and now the Gmail account is sending duplicate emails again. I’ve taken your advice and went to change Poll Folders to “Only 1st class folders”, but it turns out that it was already set

I don’t know if I did it or if it was done by default, but it doesn’t seem to have made a difference

I might have figured it out

(Currently) the problem is Gmail giving 2 notifications. One of them is from the “Inbox” and the other from “[Gmail]/All Mail”

  • hamburger icon on top left
  • manage folders
  • select “[Gmail]/All mail” (DO NOT select “Inbox” right at the top, only “[Gmail]/All mail”
  • change “Folder poll class” from 1st class to 2nd class
  • exit all the way back to the inbox for Gmail, swipe down to refresh page for checking mail
  • ???
  • “[Gmail]/All mail” cannot be selected because it’s gone
  • no more double notification because the folder is gone, but the proper inbox is still there

It is strange.
Mail was properly working.
I had murena account, 1 yahoo, 1 gmail and 1 hotmail.
After some weeks, no more synch. I had mails in inboxes (seen in webmails) but nothing in App after more thant 24h.
I have deleted those 3 ‘external’ accounts. I have encoded them again.
It was ok.
Than my gmail account has been duplicated. I can see now 2 gmail accounts in Mail app. I have deleted one. It was ok.
This morning I have switched off / on my FP6. Mail app doesn’t start anymore. I can see app opening and immediately closing.
It is really boring. It is like /e/OS for FP6 was released as soon as possible and it is not stable :frowning:

FP6 - /e/OS 3.0.4 a15

this thread has two topics - 1. duplicate notifications (probably due to imap folder subscriptions) and 2. unexpected authentication behaviour. They could be connected, but do not need to be.

As to 2., I’m seeing fixes end of July and August down the oauth/sso/mail alley at Commits · main · e / os / AccountManager · GitLab - if a user wants to side-step this until ironed out, use thunderbird mail / k9 and davx5.

Imo what 2. experiences is a consequence of Murena trying to make single sign on and first-time on-device authentication setup for all Apps work. Though it’s hard to do so without introducing bugs with a missing test harness covering both accountmanager and mail.
