QR-Code-Scanner button in the menu is continously showing “Updating…“

It’s dark and nothing happens when I click on it. How do I repair that button?

The QR scanner itself is within e.foundation.camera.

  • I give the appID as you have a fairphone to your title. (Some) Fairphone have also a copy of the Fairphone Camera, so you need to know which is the /e/ Camera.

Perhaps first check that the QRScanner works without Quick setting.

/e/ Camera > switch to Video mode then the scanner button is to the left of the Record button.

If problematic; there is within Camera > Settings (Settings icon is top right) > scroll right down > Settings manager > Reset settings (to default).

It’s an FP6 and the preinstalled camera app is com.fps.camera v8.0 on /e/OS V3.7 for FP6.

There is no scanner button in the bottom left, but the camera app does automatically detect QR codes and offers to open them.

Has the quick setting recovered now that you know that scanner works? If no, just my guess, someone who knows FP6 will be able to tell you, but I expect there exists the second /e/ Camera app and that is where the quick setting directs. Since FP6 was new there have been changes to how the two camera opportunities coexist.

The scan has always worked. Just not that button, and that hasn’t changed.

I can’t find a second camera app on the phone.

I’ll follow the advice and repost my request in the Fairphone forum. Thanks for the help.

Perhaps my guess was just wrong then. I expected in Settings > Apps

… but it is clearly an /e/OS issue if not working.

As I’m having the same issue but my camera doesn’t even recognize QR codes: Where do input this path you offered? I don’t know where to “check that the QRScanner works”

Do you also have FP6? Do you have a choice of camera as the image in Post #6.

That AppID is seen at the foot of the App info page found from Settings > Apps > All Apps > Camera

I see, e.foundation.camera is simply the name of the app, not a directory!

Yes, I have FP6 and have gone from v3.5 to v3.7. The QRScanner never finishes “updating”.

Only the Fairphone camera shows up in the list of apps, but I can toggle on the e/OS camera in app settings. With the e/OS camera, the quick settings tile is actually active and opens the camera and scans the code. Yet as I understand it, the newer cameras are supposed to automatically recognize a QR code when pointed at it and scan it, which even the e/OS camera will not do.
I guess we’ve established that the quick tile only works with the e/OS camera. But is it supposed to be like that?

Thanks for helping out!

While a “newer” camera might well point and scan that is not expected in /e/OS fork OpenCamera

It seems that the QR code Quick setting tile has not allowed for the current way the Fairphone camera has been added on fp6 official.

It is clearly not ideal, you could
