RE: Uninstall default apps

THIS IS REGARDING MY MURENA ONE:
At least I am learning a few things, but…a day or two after my last post, my email stopped working, Duckduckgo would not work properly until it asked me IF I had a problem. While checking settings I used the new ( to me) info re: packet names
And found that microG had this:

Version 0.3.6.244735-dirty
com.google.android.gms

So do i need to …what?

Just so you know i have been reading instructions, given by several. My concern here is how do I get a clean installation afterwards.

Well that stuff would be related to your internet connection. Do you have problems on Wi-Fi or does it only happen when using your cellular connection. It’s possible your carrier’s network upgrade is impacting data performance over 4G LTE or 5G, but it would have no impact on Wi-Fi performance.

If you suspect corruption in your /e/os instance, you could download the 2.9 version and flash clean. That phone is currently supported.

MicroG can do some “Google looking” stuff as it normally spoofs itself as a Google Play client. I’m not sure where you’re seeing that, but com.google.android.gms is the Google Play services package. It may be that MicroG is spoofing that as part of standard operation.

Normally you would not need to uninstall anything after doing a clean /e/os installation so I’m not sure what you mean by that. You can use different apps for things like the web browser and email, but you wouldn’t really need to uninstall the original ones, just select desired alternative apps as default apps.

Thank you for the explanations. After
duckduckgo asked for my input about my concerns, it seems thay corrected something in the. background. I had locked down the phone, turned it off left it alone for about 12 hours. Then carefully checked everything and the only problem i could then find, was microG, so that was the only uninstall possibility. Then Another Elk told me he has same Murena one phone and his microG version description is the same. So i am accepting that with your spoofing stuff that I am ok. Everything seems ok now.

One funny thing though, the G Play services package is one of only three that i am having a problem getting rid of on the tablet.

Please inform yourself how /e/OS works and what microg is.

You are aksing ‘why’ for things which are the basis that everything works as intended…

I only said I have the same microG version.
And since that checked out, I advised to open a topic regarding those Apps not working on your Murena One.

Everything on my phone is working fine and i am now comfortable with the packet name and version of microG. The only app i was concerned about reinstalling was migroG because during the hours i have spent learning here, it is key to the /e/os working properly and i wanted to make sure my phone had not been compromised. I apologise for wasting anyone’ s time and thank you for the help.

No worries, all good. Glad you could sort it out :+1:

Don’t do that. Updating stock apps through an app store client can break your phone. Some stock apps are modified to be compatible with the operating system as is the case with MicroG. Stock apps get updated with OTA updates or when you manually update your instance through a sideload.

If you caused a problem by updating a stock app incorrectly you would need to re-flash since doing that can corrupt your /e/os instance. Now if you installed an app yourself that does not ship with the /e/os ROM, then it’s not an issue to update, uninstall, or re-install that particular app at will.
