I couldn’t find an local location on the phone where the locally stored notes are kept? I was able to export some local notes from a different account but, cannot see how to re-import them or transfer them to the account where I want them to be? Also, is it possible to store local notes on the phone SD card?
When you open this app for the very first time it asks you: cloud account or local storage? The answer you give is then definitely for ever. You can probably provoke this question again by clearing all the app storage and cache data.
This question was added later. The original app (I learned it in /e/ 0.10 or so) was only able to work with a could account. I never wanted that. I use the Another Notes app from F-Droid since then.
My phone unfortunately never got the /e/ update that enabled local notes, so I’m using Obsidian instead. The open markdown-based format makes exchange of notes very simple and allows you to store your notes wherever you want.
re-import is basically placing .md files in the web-based Notes folder. The Notes app itself uses an internal sqlite db to keep state. It’s not the most robust Note taking app.
I tried creating a new test note, which created local notes folder, like you said but, when I copied my exported notes into that folder they did not show up in the app. I have ended up recreating them as I did not have too many
hm, re-import through web works for me™
- you got the device-side Notes sync set up and it synced after creating that note?
- is the web-based Notes sub-app at murena.io using a different basefolder than Notes or looking for another file extension?
all that said, Obsidian is superior to the default Notes app
I am just trying it out now and it looks excellent - thanks for the suggestion.
Re Obsidian, I would just like to thank those of you who suggested that I try this as a replacement to default e/os app. I have installed it on my phone and tablet. I use it, not just for odd bits of information that I want to remember but, to organise a large amount of technical info that I have collected over the years.
I am very pleased with it indeed. And backing up my library of local notes is now very easy. So, I don’t have to worry about losing any of it.
