Recommendations for pro grade still camera app needed

Hi,

I am looking for camera apps for my /e/OS Murena (3.6) Fairphone 6.

I have recently discovered Blackmagic, which is really standing out as a professional grade video camera app, which also lets me control audio stream selection and gain control to “combat” the horribly bat microphone(s) of the Fairphone 6.

Now I am looking for something comparable for making still shots. After some internet recommendations I tried Pro Shoot, but it looks like Pro Shoot does either not detect the resolution of the FP6s main camera (or the 50 Mpix that the fpcamera claims is just interpolation?).

Anyway, Pro Shoot only tells me it can give 13.1 Mpix on the 16 mm and 12.6 Mpix on the 24 mm.

So, who’s correct? fpcamera claiming 50 Mpix or Pro Shoot with approx. 13 Mpix?

Any other recommendation for pro grade still camera apps?

What I am looking for is an app that could give me both worlds, which means: Full manual (or automatic) control over every parameter of photography, but also giving me the easy to make a fast shoot to capture moments, ideally with some level of “intelligences” or AI for optimization.

Don’t need a large array of special effects or filters, but they don’t hurt if they are optional and “out of the way”.

Thanks alot

hman

I bought a professional digital camera for taking photos. So the phone camera doesn’t matter.

On the Fairphone 5, I also use the Fairphone camera. It’s way better than the open-source app. Maybe that will help you.

Thanks. I got a professional camera, too (Sony Alpha 99 with Zeiss lenses…), but I do not want to carry 3+ kg of camera with me all time, so I want to use the FP6 as a stand-in to catch the opportunity. With Blackmagic I did find a solution for taking videos, which in some respect even surpasses my Sony, so I am looking for something similar in stills.

Yes, the Fairphone Camera (which I believe is a fork of GCam for Google Pixel phones?) has more features (especially resolutionswise) than the other one, which I believe is a fork of Open Camera.

But it has one disadvantage, which is why I started looking for a video alternative. It is impossible to record live music with it. The Fairphone built-in microphone sucks (badly), and this is obviously a known error that Fairphone did not care to fix since the FP4, and in the FP6 (on Youtube you can find obsolutely horrible examples) it culminates.

The Open Source camera can switch the audio stream for recording, and switching to unprocessed (raw) can aleviate a tiny little bit (!) the problem. The stock app cannot do that, all audio from live events is extremely high in level. The pre-amplifier that sits before the analog-to-digital converter is set way, way too high, thus the ADC gets overloaded, and the result is extremely clipped.

Blackmagic, too, can switch streams. And has an attenuator

Thanks

I would probably recommend Open Camera for full manual control or GCam if you want better point-and-shoot results. I for one have not yet found any app that does both perfectly.

GCam. Which one of the many? There are so many ports, all for different smartphones (but none specifically for the FP6). It is hard to tell which one can operate the Lytia 700C sensor (necessary to use the 50 Mpix capability).

As the devs there search for and include proprietary firmware (which will be shared in a highly protected way between manufacturer and Google) for their ports, we cannot expect full disclosure.

But the presence of a (costly) Lytia 700C sensor (by Sony) surely is something smartphone manufactures will place upfront on their advertising…

I have the same problem as you have. I also wanted a GCam. After consulting de AI’s of ChatGPT, Lumo and Mistral the last one gave me an advise wich one is stable enough for a FP6. I’ve installed him and the first experiences are okay. The next days I will test him more. The straight link is:
