I want to suggest stone device builds. If possible community/regularly like f.e. the x3 nfc (similar device, just 2 gens older). Else one with /e/OS 4.0 (or .1 if in time).
Reasons why:
- There have been already releases: UNOFFICIAL / CUSTOM BUILDS OVERVIEW ronnz98 - please do not reply on this thread (lists actually only the oldest not newest)

- Official support by Xiaomi has recently ended

- It is one of the few devices with sd card and audio jack, as well as custom rom support that is (was?) available: GSMArena Finder . As such given the idea of freedom of choice I think more support is in need.
- It has GKI support, thus kernel handling is easier.
- Though with HyperOS I admit unlocking turned more complex again (besides an unsued? phone number with sms/data - no prepaids, and 30 day+ xiaomi account, logged to device incl. sync/find my device … which was the same till now you have to run a python script, log to 2 browsers, wait till GMT+8 short before 24’ to have an account that can unlock to then unlock the device for which you have to wait 3 more days ….)
