Hello fellow eos users.
I am a very light user of my fairphone 4 with eos the only app other than the basic suit i use is audiable and signal, and the onboard software does a wonderful job of stopping snooping.
My question is:
I never use the tasks, calander and recorder functions, is there a way to uninstall them?
Removing stock apps is no that easy and requires a bit of handicraft.
But removing icons from the screen is simple and is already sufficient in many cases. You can delete each icon without losing the app. The app remains installed and fully working but it will not disturb anymore because you can’t see it except in the app drawer. If you also want to get rid of it also in the app drawer you can hide an app.
Using ADB to disable the apps you don’t need will remove the icon and is less likely to cause a problem compared to uninstalling. The system can have dependencies on its stock apps. Uninstalling can break things where disabling does not.
I actually disable a couple stock apps I don’t use myself. However I have the option to hide apps since I run Lawnchair instead of Bliss Launcher. I have a couple unused apps disabled, but mainly I hide them.
My one and only complaint with /e/os is that Bliss launcher. It’s rudimentary and lacks customization. I would have preferred they port the Trebuchet launcher that comes with LineageOS. Even though it would have been more work it would have been a much better way to go. Though I don’t know, Lawnchair runs solid and is pretty amazing in its level of customization so maybe the crappy launcher /e/os comes with is a blessing in disguise since it steered me to something excellent.
That’s exactly what I tried. But I can’t figure out how. Only self-installed apps can be removed from the screen. How do I remove the system apps like recorder and so on?
I didn’t have that problem, all the apps that appear in the app drawer are listed under “hide apps”. It’s just a matter of checking the ones I don’t want to see. I don’t know why that would be a problem in your case. Are you using the lastest version of Lawnchair 14; Lawnchair Downloads
Otherwise you’ll have to disable apps using ADB. Some apps require root privileges. In that case enable root debugging in developer options and enter the command “adb root” prior to issuing commands.
It depends probably on the launcher you use. I can’t remember the Bliss Launcher and am especially not sure about its current capabilities. (They did a lot on it in the last years.) So I can’t suggest concrete steps.
If you don’t get it with Bliss you could think about using another launcher instead. This is something I guess most people at least try, and /e/ is open for that. If you don’t like your test candidate you can uninstall it and use Bliss again. Bliss remains always there.
The already mentioned Lawnchair is optically very similar but does a lot of things better. I for myself am currently testing Lynx Launcher which has some different concepts and interesting features like configurable two finger swipes.
Note: also launchers can have trackers. Finding a launcher without trackers is not easy and results in only a handful. The mentioned ones do not have trackers.
Yeah you have to watch that. Nova is a popular one with a particularly invasive tracker that fingerprints your phone. The open source launchers usually don’t have any trackers. In my mind the launcher is the most significant part of the user interface. It sets the whole feel of the phone.
