you should be abble to install /e/ unofficial GSI

This recommendation can only apply if the A33 5G is running the standard Android 13 or 12.

However, the current version is Stock Android U (Android 14), Dec. 2024, and the GSI from @Colors 2.9-a14-20250321-CUSTOM-arm64_bfS.img.xz / 2.9-a14-20250321-CUSTOM-arm64_bfN.img.xz comes into consideration.

Thank you for this amazing android ROM. I’ve been looking up and down, left and right for ROM’s for A33 5G and basically just found yours that didn’t have very slow charging problem (like I had on the infinity-x os linked here) or isn’t an old android version like Andy Yan’s GSI.

However, there are some problems I would report and hope they get fixed in upcoming updates if this unofficial ROM is still being worked on.

  1. When staying in recovery menu (e os recovery and not twrp) for over 30 - 40s the phone reboots in recovery automatically. There is some kind of square that appears on my screen, the screen colors become warmer for a few seconds and it just reboots to recovery.

  2. Fingerprint doesn’t work. That is the problem that I faced on all unofficial ROM’s I’ve installed so I’m assuming that is harder to fix.

  3. When booting I get “Orbit configuration invalid” and based on what I saw on some other threads here in the community, the problem was fixed when the (I’m assuming official ROM) got updated so maybe this is also hard to fix for unofficial ROM.

There are also some minor problems here and there but I don’t think they are worth mentioning. Overall the ROM works great for me, animations work smoother then on my stock os and I think even the battery life improved. Thank you again for this amazing ROM and I hope you are still working on and are able to fix these problems.

Since I used sources below, issues should be the same

Please see sources and install instructions including recovery here:
https://xdaforums.com/t/rom-16-unofficial-aosp-infinity-x-for-galaxy-a33-5g.4766285/

So yeah I already said I installed infinity os from the XDA forum and I experienced very slow charging which was a deal breaker for me and I’m not having it here on e os.

I didn’t know this ROM was based on infinity os, thought it was independent.

Anyways, are you planning on fixing some of the issues I mentioned? I’m sure its hard but really hope its possible. I would be a long-term e os user on this device if at least finger print was fixed.

No, this ROM does not use infinity sources, but the same device, kernel and vendor sources as they used for infinity. Best if you get in touch with the developer(s) and ask what they plan to fix in the future

The built in message app keeps crashing, the e.foundation.message package. Any idea why?

No, but you can use QKSMS as alternative

Hi, could you kindly confirm these:

  1. Can you receive/send sms from the ROM?
  2. Can you turn on WiFi-hotspot?

It will be a great help if you could answer these questions. I would like to try this out, but don’t have the time to fresh install as the phone is my only daily driver.

Thanks in advance!

Two days ago I bought a new phone (since I used my samsung for 3 years) that has official /e/ os support(OnePlus 11) so I don’t have to bother with manual updates and lack of some features like no track blocking (I turned it on but it always said 0 trackers which I’m not facing on official ROM for one plus). I didn’t test the hotspot because I didn’t need it and SMS sending and receiving worked but the official /e/ os message app didn’t work (it just crashed) so I installed Fossify messages. If you want micro g support then this unofficial release is your best bet.

Hi, thanks for the answers and good luck with your new phone! I had another question, which is - by any chance, did you have any USB C headphone that you used with the A33 and did it work?

Thanks! You can only connect through bluetooth since A33 doesn’t have a headphone jack. Bluetooth worked well, as I would expect it to.

Thanks for the reply again! I want to inform you that the A33 can actually connect a wired headphone by it’s USB-C port, you can either use a headphone that has a USB-C port, or use a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter. Both worked just fine for me on the stock ROM, but none of them work anymore after installing /e/OS GSI.

I also tried a few roms on a33 and had different issues occur to me so yeah, that is what you get with unofficial roms and also the fingerprint doesn’t work on a33 specifically and it probably won’t get fixed ever.

Maybe you can try Infinity x since it has some nice customization features and gestures and even though unofficial has basically monthly releases.

Other than that, you said GSI? You just flashed the system image and not the whole ROM as a zip? Maybe that is the problem.

Yes you’re right, different issues comes up with the roms, also because the stock firmwares are closed source. At the time I flashed the /e/OS GSI, there were no “rom” existed for A33, and I wanted to use /e/OS, so I flashed the unofficial /e/OS GSI. Now as it has this rom of /e/OS for this particular device, I want to move to it, but only if the problems are not there, which I mentioned, otherwise it will be mostly useless. I can live without fingerprint not working, however the sending sms is most problematic to me, as most banking apps need it. And having the wired headphones working is also nice to have. Anyway, thanks for the answers!
