Now, I have two more questions:
. will it still be possible to continue updating the system with new versions of /e/os?
. can I upgrade Android version from version 11 (R/LOS 18.1) to version 12 (S/LOS 19.1)?

The trick with building is to see what works

If it builds it will probably install – of course there is no more development work added to Legacy devices, as regards the device itself, but if the device tree continues to upgrade at all your builds will carry those benefits. However as new features are added to /e/OS some or most are likely to work.

However unfortunately at this time the last v1-r tag was: v2.3-r · Tags · e / os / 🚀 Releases · GitLab so it will be time to move on …

So you have seen that the Lineage device tree at 19.1 exists GitHub - LineageOS/android_device_samsung_a5y17lte, so there is a good chance that /e/OS will build.

Again if it builds it will probably install. For best results you should probably Format data.

Of course it is easier to build and experiment if the phone is not required in everyday use!
