Please add your suggestions to improve the documentation for the Samsung - Galaxy S7 Edge - hero2lte here …
Everything went fine for me, thanks for those instructions !
I got stuck at one point because I read too fast and didn’t notice that recovery starts with volume UP instead of down.
Apart from that the flashing went OK.
I could not say the same about the easy-installer but I guess it is not the place for that.
I’ve just tried and failed to flash eOS onto the S7 Edge (on Windows). From these instructions Install /e/OS on a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge - “hero2lte” I got to and completed step 4 of the Preparing for installation using Heimdall section (replacing the driver using the zadig.exe application). Step 5 fails (the command heimdall print-pit ) - the output in the terminal is
libusb: error [init_device] device ‘\.\USB#VID_04F2&PID_B6BE&MI_02#7&22730AE6&0&0002’ is no longer connected!
libusb: error [init_device] program assertion failed: device address collision with root hub
libusb: error [init_device] device ‘\.\USB#VID_045E&PID_0750&MI_01#8&2BE4BF57&0&0001’ is no longer connected!
ERROR: Failed to detect compatible download-mode device.
Does this mean that the new driver is not recognised by Windows? If so how are you supposed to continue with any of the rest of the steps??!
Hello @bogviking, Welcome to the /e/ users forum.
as a Windows user, you’d better use Odin3 and not Heimdall
ah, ok… shame that’s not in the instructions. Nor linking TWRP in the custom recovery section - I had no idea these were the same thing.
OK trying Odin. Says it cannot use a zip file, but that is how the ROM comes from the e/OS/ site. and there’s no .md5 or .tar file in that zip. So instructions not making sense to me.
Any clue how to proceed?
Odin need .TAR files
use “7zip” to convert the recovery-e-xxxxxxxx.img file into a recovery-e-xxxxxxxx.tar file to use with Odin…
or use the command :
Thank you for your help - I eventually installed eOS successfully! The key was using Odin, and the recovery image direct from the TWRP site, not the one in the eOS instructions. That page needs to be completely re-written for Windows users.
I got Odin from their site.
TWRP img from here: Download twrp-3.7.0_9-1-hero2lte.img.tar
I followed this video and all went well: https://youtu.be/BOfv0F12gSI
I have a question though: at the end of that video he ‘roots’ the phone by installing Magisk Root. Is that necessary?
No, not at all. On e/OS devices, it is not advisable.
But you can do it anyway if you need it.
You might know what for before rooting a device.
