Security alert: “Midnight Mimosa” (MediaTek)

Hi,

Just sharing some recent information I came across in my news feed: Bitdefender reports malware that may have been preinstalled on some low-cost Android phones using MediaTek platforms. It could install hidden apps, generate advertising fraud, and turn some devices into proxy relays.

Has this information been brought to the attention of the /e/OS team so they can determine whether any devices currently on sale (particularly the GS6 and GS6 Pro, which run on MediaTek processors) are affected?

Well, it seems to be running on counterfeit flagship phones sold on asian origin websites so not on mainstream devices.

Besides that, allthough it’s said that it isn’t possible for the user to delete the fake apps/services, that’s exactly what happens if you flash a device with /e/OS (or any other ROM). At least the ones sold by Murena. Or am I missing something?
