Hey,
I’m posting as a problem/solution. I’m self hosting a vanilla nextcloud, setup. I wanted to post to help others.
The problem i faced is that from e/os i couldn’t not matter what i did find a way to have a newly created calendar invite, send invitations to attendees. Basically i would create a new calendar event, invite other people from my nextcloud, and then the event would never show up in their calendars.
The solution is that the DavX5 account name is important as it is sent to the server as the organizer and if that doesn’t match the email address of the current next cloud user then no invites will be sent.
In my case the username was russell
and my email is russell@example.com
. I had to go into Accounts → russell (Murena.io) → My Account → Settings → russell → … (the hamburger menu) → Rename account
Then rename the account to russell@example.com
to have invitations work.
So this is probably caused partly because i have been using usernames instead of email addresses as my account names, but anyway, i was a confusing experience, because it’s a feature and so there are no meaningful logs. There is an old GitHub issue explaining this edge case Calendar invites not sent when using 3rd party CalDav client · Issue #17810 · nextcloud/server · GitHub
