I accidentally uninstalled Shelter on the start screen, instead of removing the icon. I need access to my main Whatsapp account and banking app, some apps in the work profile are still active and accessible, but Whatsapp and others are frozen and/or invisible. So the work profile data does still exist, but I can’t access it fully.
When trying to reinstall Shelter, it says, I can’t create a new profile, since there already is one. (I had already encountered this notification, but back then the data was irrelevant and I could just delete the work profile.)
Is there a way to restore the work profile with or without Shelter in any kind of way? Maybe via Laptop and root?
I found out, there should be a device management in the settings which could maybe help, but the murena service to download the configuration file seems to be offline or they are working on a new device management service.
I did it… after hours via adb with root debugging. Guess the reinstall of Whatsapp through adb did the final trick in the end. May write a short documentation at some point, now I go to sleep (it’s 7 a.m. in Vienna).
Might be helpful for some.
But /e/os should implement, that apps for work profile administration/creation can not be deleted on the fly from anywhere, but only within the specific system settings.
Hi @franzys , I’m in the same boat (removed the whole shelter app when I just wanted to clean up an icon widget).
I can re-install the shelter-app, but it can not finalize its configuration.
I can see and launch Apps that were not frozen in the work profile. My guess the frozen ones are still present, but not visible in the Apps menu.
@franzys would you have time and be kind enough to share the way you solved this problem ?
