Signal cannot use microG's push service

I know, this maybe is a signal app related topic but there might be a lot of users here using signal as well.

Signal was running fine on my old device which I use with /e/OS since Android 11 or 12, upgraded it to Android 13 and it registered for using push via microG.

Now I got a CMF phone 1 and all my background syncing apps so far can register via microG for push notifications. But signal does not. Thats why I get the notification for “Background connection enabled” (not sure of the correct english translation). I don’t care for the notification as I can hide it. It just bothers me that Signal now cannot use the push service that should be provided.

Is there a way to solve it for me? If not: Can anyone deploy background knowlegde if this is a microG-Related topic, an /e/OS implementation thing (which i don’t think), a Signal topic or maybe it does relate to Android 14?

Thanks in advance.

A workaround could be to use Molly instead, which is a version of Signal without the propietary pieces of code. Especially since the last version you can find on their F-droid repo offers the possibility to use UnifiedPush notifications, so no need of microG at all. Since 2.5 /e/OS also enables UnifiedPush.

Great workaround and great app!

I checked it out but can’t import “Backups of newer versions of Signal” so I wait until they release a new version and would move then.

For Molly if you want to use UP, this can help.

You also have to activate Unifed push under Settings->System->UnifiedPush. Please check maybe beforehand that you have one of the latest e/OS/ versions which includes it.
