SIM card PIN code : is there no hiding it?

Hello everyone,

After migrating to /e/OS on a FairPhone 4 on August 18th, and spending part of my free time in the second half of August getting to know the OS and getting the right settings, as well as finding and setting some essential apps for my needs - with help from some of the members of this forum -, I have been spending the last ten days with a pretty functional de-googled mobile phone !
(now sporting /e/OS 4.2-a1420260814662910-official-FP4)

Now and then I will be coming back to you here to get help and information about different things.

This time it is the question about the display of the SIM card PIN code on the screen: the phone displays briefly each number of my SIM card PIN code when I enter it (one second before it turns into a big black dot), and I do not want that.

I went through pretty much every settings menu and submenu, and I was unable to find any other setting point than this (“Show passwords”):

The screen lock PIN code does not show - this is my desired behaviour. And it ought to be the same for the SIM card PIN code - but it isn’t.

And when (for testing purposes) I set this settings “on” (button green and to the right), nothing changes! That means: SIM card PIN code shows; screen lock PIN code does not show.
And when I set it back to original, nothing changes: SIM card PIN code shows; screen lock PIN code does not show.
And I also tested with rebooting the phone - to no avail: nothing changed, this or that way.

So either I really missed something somewhere - or something is not working the way it should - or else?

Thank you for your help in this.

Cheers!

Ludo

Yeah. But how often do you enter your PIN? - Once in three weeks or so.

Oh yeah!
On a normal day, four times.
Bad luck makes six to eight times…

Not a major issue but still a fair point.

When I log into my banking app and enter the account password, the app momentary displays the keyboard character I enter as I type and it disappeared after about half a second. The idea is your doing so in a private place (no overhead camera) or eyes.

Not all apps use this feature but it’s just about standard for many apps.

Yes, that is what I mean.

It should not be.

My other mobile device, a tablet, which is not degoogled yet, does not have this problem: both screen lock and SIM card PIN codes are hidden.

I expect this from a stock Android.

So I suppose, the next step from here (as I understand I didn’t make a mistake) is to file a “feature request” (in “request a feature” on “/e/OS operating system”)…

Or Report an issue directly to the developers.
