Sim-manager crashes when trying to add esim

FP4, /e/OS 2.3

Following the dialog Settings → Network and Internet → SIM cards → Download eSim → Continue
my device crashes reproducable while checking network information under e/OS 2.2 as well as with 2.3 and independently with WLAN on/off, networking over another SIM etc. The FP4 had another eSim (congstar) I’ve deleted first - maybe that procedure left something in the file systems which I couldn’t find up to now.

Temporarily, I got another FP4 with OS 2.2 and nearly identical setup at hand for verification. This device works w/o any problem. I cannot get behind to locate the diff, also because grant of permissions and network setup are the same.

Any help would be highly apreciated. Thanks in advance,
Werner

I, too, have a crash of the settings app when trying to manually change my network access point in Settings > Network & Internet > SIM > Automatically select network > Choose network

Dunno whether or not it’s linked… i’m using a S7 though.

After searching through logs (adb logcat > file) and having read some users’ comments, I suspected code of microG to be responsible for the crashes. So I disabled microG completely (settings → apps), and now the workflow ends up in one of 2 ways: looping infinitely while checking network information (the step before launching the camera for taking a picture of the QR code) or crashing after about 1 minute.

I’ll go deeper tomorrow, now it’s time to turn the machine off for a grizzled FOSSer.

Quick and dirty workaround: I’ll order a physical SIM tomorrow morning to be able to use the phone soon.

You can’t disable microG on an android phone. It’s like turning off google play service and a lot of do not like that, especially on /e/ built on the microG core. Without it, it won’t work. This is not a solution as it will cause other significant issues, even if it solves that problem.
