Some apps not connecting to mobile internet

I discovered an interesting issue when I travelled over the weekend, that some apps, including Magic Earth, would not connect to the mobile network, but they had connected to the wifi in the house. The phone showed 5G but an exclamation mark next to the network connection bars. I discovered the solution was to change the name of the network provider in settings. That is setting→ network and internet →internet→cog next to mobile network provider→access point names. Here, pick a different network. In my case, from eircom/meteor wap.mymeteor to meteor internet data.mymeteor. The difference between the two APN (Access Point Name) settings, wap.meteor and data.meteor, primarily relates to how mobile data was handled on the legacy Meteor network (now Eir), with data.meteor designed for full internet access and wap.meteor designed for a limited, older mobile browser. I am not sure why wap.mymeteor was set by default on my new Fairphone 6

When the AOSP system for APN changed at the turn of 2025-26 to https://source.android.com/docs/core/connect/carrierid it is not yet clear to me if /e/OS will have presets “frozen” for update to AOSP only at 6 month intervals.

If I understand correctly the presets will be derived from (large file) assets/latest_carrier_id/carrier_list.textpb - platform/packages/providers/TelephonyProvider - Git at Google. Does it seem informative to see if your published APN appear in this very long list?

They appear in the list as “Meteor Mobile Communications Ltd.” and “Eircom”
