Synchronize subscribed calendars via CalDAV

I previously used Outlook and Google Calendar to manage my calendars. I used these services to subscribe to numerous public event calendars via iCal. I do the same today with /e/.
The problem is that when I call up the murena calendar on the web, all the subscribed calendars appear. If I subscribe to my murena calendar via CalDAV in my calendar app (here: One Calendar on Windows and Android), only 2 calendars are available: Birthdays of my contacts and my personal calendar.
Of course, I can subscribe to each individual calendar on each device using copy & paste, but that’s not so great. I would like to receive all the events I see at murena Calendar, when I access murena Calendar via CalDAV.
Is this a user error on my part? A missing feature in CalDAV? A missing feature in murena Cloud?

If you install ICSx5 from F-Droid you should be able to sync the subscribed calendars

Couldn’t parse iCalendar is the error that I see while trying. This app doesn’t even promote CalDAV support as far as I can see!?

Sorry - I’m not sure what you are trying to say. ICSx5 supports syncing the Web calendars - in .ics format - that you have subscribed to in your Murena Calendar account,

That I would like to access to my murena Cloud calendar as I did with Google & Outlook before.
Expected behaviour: See the same calendars that I see when I go to https://murena.io/apps/calendar - my personal calendars as well as those I’ve subscribed to via ics at the web interface of murena calendar:

This is what happens when I add my Outlook/Google calendar with calendar apps. What I actually see when I subscribe from an app to murena calendar via CalDAV:

All the calendars I’ve subscribed on murena calendar via ics are missing.

OK that may be a problem with /e/'s CalDAV sync.

If you install DAVx5 and ICSx5, and setup DAVx5 to sync with your murena.io account. Then you will see the Main Window in DAVx5 with three tabs: CalDAV, CardDAV, and Wecall. All your subscribed web calendars should be visible in the Webcal tab, and you can enable them from there. Then they can be made visible in your Calendar app.

I would also turn off /e/'s sync, and just use DAVx5, otherwise your persona calendars and address books will get synched twice

Hi @petefoth

Is it possible to use DAVx5 without an external server?

I am wondering if I could have a calendar in my personal PC that I can synchronize with my telephone using DAVx5. But:

  • PC / phone could be offline; can changes be stored offline and sync happen two ways only when both devices are online?
  • which calendar app can be used on the phone to avoid messing up with Etar / Calendar Import-Export, where I keep a local calendar?
  • which program is needed on the PC to allow the above? Thundirbird would be a nice answer

Thank you in advance @petefoth

Short answer: No, Try a program called ‘Syncthing’

Longer answer: Not that I know of. According to the DAVx5 website, the purpose of DAVx5 is

Get live-access to your WebDAV Cloud files.

You can’t do that if you don’t have your files on a server somewhere that exposes those files using the CALDAV protocol, which extends the WebDAV (HTTP-based protocol for data manipulation) specification.

You could run some software on your PC which does all that, but it wouldn’t be easy.

What you seem to be looking for is ‘peer to peer’ syncing: a quick search turn up a program called ‘Syncthing’ with clients which run on your computer and on your phone

I have read good reports about Syncthing, but I have not used it myself, as I need to sync calendars, contacts and notes between several computers and several phones. That’s what DAVx5 is built for, and I’m happy to use cloud providers I trust (OwnCloud and The Good Cloud, which both offer a free tier which meets my needs). Murena would also work.

If you really don’t want a cloud account of any sort then maybe start with Syncthing

thank you @petefoth , I will have a look if I can build a suitable solution with syncthing
