T-Mobile connection w/ no Internet: FP4

I activated Murena Mobile on a new Fairphone 4 yesterday, and successfully ported over my number to the Murena eSIM. I can do everything when connected to WiFi, but can only make calls and SMS when off wifi / on my data.

Upon starting up my FP4 earlier in the day I updated to /e/OS 2.7-u-20250109460370-official-FP4.

The icon in the top right of the screen shows strong connection, and when I go to Settings > Network & Internet > Internet it shows T-Mobile 5G. About phone > SIM status (sim slot 2) says T-Mobile, and Phone number (sim slot 2) is my number. Everything indicates I’m connected, but not able to access anything from that connection.

My issues seem very similar to what is in this (recently closed) thread:

But as far as I can tell, the update / build that was posted there to solve the problem others were having did not help me. Sent a message to Murena Help, and waiting for 2-5 day turnaround.

Any suggestions?

Update:
I’ve followed the steps given in this thread:

My APNs screen says “Access Point Name settings are not available for this user.” As in those instructions above, I click “+” and enter the APN info from T-Mobile, found here:
https://www.t-mobile.com/support/devices/not-sold-by-t-mobile/byod-t-mobile-data-and-apn-settings

I click save under the three dot icon, and this new APN does not show up as those posts indicated it would. I reboot, go back in, still doesn’t show up. I’m connected to WiFi the whole time while doing this. For whatever reason, despite my clicking “Save,” the APN’s I’m creating / saving don’t save.

Any idea on how to fix this, and if it might be related to the original issue above?

It seems this is a recurring issue, you picked a rather old thread, you might review other threads with apn hashtag, but you seem to be doing all the right things including reboot probably more than once. When these APN issues resolve I believe there is a largely unseen stage where the APN one enters, makes contact with the remote server via Wi-Fi and, importantly, verifies. However (my own speculation) if the APN is not a perfect match the Save fails silently.

You could talk it through with your carrier. They may be persuaded to offer an APN reset but the call handler may hesitate as there may be a carrier expectation that some Google magic will correct “short APN” currently used especially by carriers which piggy back on a larger network.

On this subject I notice your link refers to

if automatic configuration is not supported

This will be the case with an AOSP device.

For better or worse, my carrier is Murena Mobile - I needed a phone plan relatively fast and my old one wouldn’t carry over, so I figured the phone provider’s would be the most ready to go out of the box. So much for that! Waiting for their “hopefully 2, more like 5 business day” response time.

Was planning on switching to Mint after the short-term need passed, but now I’m not super optimistic about them, either.

Meanwhile, continuing to plug and chug APN settings and then rebooting. Some of the other apn threads have slightly different settings to enter, but a common point seems to be the crapshoot of establishing a connection with the server at the moment you hit “Save” so that the settings actually take affect.

Hello,
Murena Mobile APN settings are:
for mobile data:
APN: wholesale
for MMS:
APN: pwg

Please try manually entering APN settings first.
