Terrible work of /e/OS operating system (personal experience)

Hello everyone.

I would like to share my experience of using /e/OS in 2024.

It was really terrible! What I did NOT like and what did NOT work, if I write DOES NOT work
then it really DOES NOT work!

It remains a mystery to me why this firmware is called the main one with such terrible quality???

Phone Samsung Galaxy S7

  1. /e/OS Recovery does not work through it, even Magisk cannot be installed!
Apply update -> Apply from ADB

$ adb devices

$ adb sideload Magisk

unauthorized ???? None of your tips from the wiki work!

  1. Wireless charging does not work, instead of charging the switched off phone, the phone turns on!

  2. Microphone unlocking does not work, I don’t know why this function is needed at all. Someone called me, I hear and can communicate with the user regardless of whether I enabled this function or not
    Attached a screenshot.

  1. Found a graphic bug, it turns out I have 4 SIM cards instead of 2)) Attached a screenshot.
You can check it yourself by turning on and off airplane mode.

  1. The phone does not turn off correctly, instead of turning off instantly as it works with other phone manufacturers, it freezes for 7 seconds or more.

  2. There is NO encryption by default!

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/OS the deGoogled mobile OS and online servicesphone

First time e/OS/ with the S7 and never tried other device?

It seems that your expectations are too high given that the Galaxy S7 was released 8 years ago and is not supported anymore by either samsung-firmwares or Google-Android.

If what you expect is a system with high stability and all important bugs resolved, then a newer model is advised, like Fairphone 4 or 5, or Pixels.

Also bear in mind that murena is small and cannot provide the level of perfection that huge (HUGE) companies like google can. So we are bound to accept some tradeoffs on any phone for the increase in privacy that the system is offering. Murena-/e/OS does not have the pretension to compete directly with the quality level of Google systems.

It seems that there is a misunderstanding. If your expectation is a thoroughly tested system without improved privacy, then it is advised to use Google’s android stock firmware on the Galaxy S7.

The system is provided for free with all its imperfections. This is not a commercial service that one can buy with the right of complaining on the quality.

Latest french firmware for the Galaxy s7 is Download Galaxy S7 SM-G930F (XEF) G930FXXU8EVG3 in Samfw - Samsung firmware download

firmware for the FD variant (Asia, Africa, and Ukrain) here : Samsung Galaxy S7 Firmware Download SM-G930FD Free Download

I conclude You use a 930FD which has 2 SIM-slots (?)
On my G930F (only 1 SIM-slot) I do not have that odd behaviour when airplane-mode is ON…(1 SIM is shown when airplane mode OFF, no network shown when ON)
According to Info about Samsung Galaxy S7 - herolte G930FD is supported but might have some special bug(s?) related to the 2 SIM-slots(?)

good point and I agree in general … yet still the S7 was sold in the murena shop and is still considered a “murena device” which makes it a candidate for official and OTA-updates and the upcoming U-upgrade (not sure if the 930FD was ever sold in the shop, the one I bought in the shop is the 930F)

For the first time in several years, such disgusting build quality and image performance! Lots of errors and shortcomings!

As for the phone, I’m thinking about replacing it!

Thank you for your opinion.

I understand what you are talking about and I agree with you globally!

Yes, indeed, the phone is physically outdated, if you compare it with the phones that are released today. To be honest, I don’t know what else a user needs, maybe for a phone to fulfill wishes like Aladdin))

I had an even older Samsung S3 for several years with /e/OS, everything worked much more stably and I didn’t have so many errors!

Okay, I will consider replacing the phone, I will look for a new option.

Did you think about to reset the system? Sometimes that works wonders, sometimes. It is also alot of work to set up everything…

Thank you for your opinion.

I agree with you and followed the same logic when choosing a phone. I noticed that a large number of Samsung phones have a stable version. But as practice has shown, this did not work…

It turns out that you need to choose the newest phone possible to avoid similar problems…

do you mean make a backup and reinstall everything? It is possible but for some messengers it is data loss etc.

Most likely at this stage I will have to go this way (reinstall the system) and do all the settings again…((

That is what I meant :+1::+1:

I feel like no using any app data to restore to recover from even best. Lasttime I recovered with SeedVault when I swapped devices. I had kinda worse battery performance maybe reason is battery (it was the same model).

thanks for your advice :handshake:.

I will study this program SeedVault - Calyx Institute

Nothing against SeedVault but on the e/OS/ S version it is useless. It doesn’t work very good, it improved alot with T.

I have 2x Samsung Galaxy S10+. Both work perfectly on /e/OS and that is testing. I have Sony Xperia 1 III. I have got testing on Sony, as I needed newest MicroG. All is working perfectly fine. I would say that you either bodged flash or your phone is already dying. I am using /e/OS since October 2023, e-1.16-s. Oh and BTW device unauthorised means you haven’t authorised your computer. You cannot use ADB anywhere without authorisation and that obviously include recovery. I guess you just flashed /e/OS and either way you lost public key for ADB, so obviously no authorisation. ADB public keys are stored on data partition, which you have had to wipe/format

Hi, it’s been a while but I wanted to respond anyway.

I think you are being very unfair with your criticism. You are using a phone that is more than 8 years old. Phones have electronic components that degrade over time. Storage memories, RAM and other chips are losing performance as time goes by. It seems to me that the ways of addressing your criticisms were not the best and that you are not taking into account the years that your phone has.

Another thing you can do is try another android ROM. But look for a newer phone and be more careful in the way you express your complaints is also something you should do.

Hi. I’m glad to agree with you, but it’s not true. I wrote what problems I have above, it’s not related to the phone’s hardware.

I also want to tell you that it wouldn’t be very correct to compare two different phone models. Maybe everything works fine for you, but that doesn’t mean it will work the same for me, since you and I have different hardware!

Hello. Thank you for your answer and opinion.

I do not quite agree with your answer, I admitted in the answers above that it is possible, I will write again that it is possible, my phone has hardware flaws that need to be confirmed. I wrote specific problems that I encountered, moreover, for each problem except one, I opened a topic and other users confirmed these problems with the operating system!

I think so, if there are 217 phones on the site and the developers chose such a number of phones, then they realize that they will cope with this task and all phones will work correctly and they can be supported or, as it seems to me, we need to abandon such a large number and leave 19 models like CalyxOS https://calyxos.org/docs/guide/device-support/

Coincidently, if you check the list of devices that have an official build of e/OS the number is exactly 19… But the Galaxy S7 is one of them so you really should not have encountered so many problems.
I still want to add that there are particular smartphone models that are especially hard or not at all to customize. I had an Galaxy S6 that neither me nor anyone else could get to work with any Custom ROM. This forum is full of complaints about basically every Fairphone model (I really don’t understand why Murena chose to make them their leading manufacturer). So I guess it’s a bit trial and error, maybe you really try another free OS like Calyx? I found this cool comparison table: Comparison of Android-based Operating Systems
