So it’s October and Three UK just switched off 3G and have no 2G fallback and my Samsung S9+ has stopped making and receiving calls permanently. Apparently this is a Samsung specific issue as even though it’s VOLTE ready in its spec, it won’t work with e/os.
Any other people experiencing problems?
Three UK have a list of devices for their network here: https://devicesupport.three.co.uk and I’m thinking of getting a OnePlus 9Pro but it says VOLTE 4g will work in the UK but not outside the UK. Why do you think that is and will it ‘fallback’ to 2G abroad?
I’ve been on the Three forums and I contacted support and they have assured me that my soon to be purchased OnePlus 8 Pro (changed to 8 from 9) will indeed work with the new non-3G network i.e it is VOLTE enabled.
So, I will install e/os later this week and hope for the best. I will of course run the phone on it’s stock Android first and check all is good before installing e/os.
There a LOTS of people complaining of loss of calling on the Three forums. Many are going to a rival network such as 02 but it seems to me that they will end up with the problem that all their calling will be on a 2G network which in iself is going to be turned off on all providers at some point.
So to summarise for e/os in the UK:
do not use a Samsung device at all
If you are on Three and not using a Samsung phone you may be alright if you are VOLTE compatible already but you might need to get a new phone that has VOLTE. You can check with support if the phone will work or cross reference this list: https://devicesupport.three.co.uk
Going to a different network will only provide temporary relief.
