I use a different calendar app than the stock one, but use a Murena account to back up my calendar. When I tell my preferred app to give a notification about an event, I get one from both my preferred app and the stock one. How can I stop the notification from the stock app?
I’ve looked in settings, but I can’t disable notifications from the stock app or even disable the app entirely. I’m flabbergasted as to why I wouldn’t be able to turn off notifications for included apps. Even the googled roms I’ve used allowed disabling apps that came with the device.
Is there a solution to this that doesn’t require rooting my phone? If this is a bug, what’s the template for reporting it? (I have an account on the gitlab, but don’t have much experience with what info the devs need.)
I don’t know what you mean. The default calendar application is called calendar, calendar.e.foundation. that seems like another app asking for calendar permission.
Yes, this is the part, where /e does not shine at all!
Being forced to keep default apps on your device, when there are much better apps available, is just bad. Fossify calendar works just so much better for me.
I see the problem is an extra notification from the default calendar application that is also called Etar because it’s a fork.
Not only that, but the calendar app seems to be managing the calendar providers too, because if i turn off sync in the calendar, fossify calendar no longer gets new data from the servers.
It’s supposed to be a 3 part system where there is a sync service the calendar provider and the calendar client.
I’m opening a bug in gitlab.
Either the app is left running as a manager of the provider but we can manage notifications or the app is decoupled from the provider so that we can manage the app access to data without preventing other apps from doing it.
I use Fossify Calendar as my main calendar, so I also had the problem with double calendar reminders.
My solution:
Open the /e/OS calendar and tap on the hamburger menu in the upper left corner.
Select “Settings”. Below the menu entries for “General settings”, “Add offline calendar” and the like, you should see a list of your calendars.
For every calendar, do as follows: Tap on the calendar. The calendar settings open. Disable “Display events”, but make sure that “Synchronize this calendar” is enabled. (Repeat for every calendar.)
Afterwards, you should no longer get notifications from the /e/OS calendar.
It is not that intuitive, and there should be an easier way to achieve this, but it works (at least on my phone™).
Please note that you should leave “Synchronize this calendar” enabled because otherwise the synchronization stops (a bit counterintuitive, but this was the case the last time I tried to also deactivate it).
