I self-host my email on a *.de domain and I believe the domain filter is set too strictly. I do not wish to use an alternative email account. Allowing only account creation with something like (I am taking wild guesses at the whitelist here) a gmail/hotmail freemail account from one of the big providers leaves a bad taste in my mouth coming from /e/OS. I also haven’t had any other site on the entire web refuse my email address.
I would appreciate if you could relax the domain restriction on gitlab account creation or find some better solution (a hint in the error message, perhaps?) that doesn’t discourage people from contributing to /e/OS. This is the second time I am trying to create an account and I only found out I have to send an email because I am now writing this post and was referred to the other thread by discourse.
As mentioned in the other thread we do have an issue with spammers, hackers and trolls. Folks who have nothing else to do but misuse the services which we offer for free.
For now the best options are to either send in these details to me in a personal message and I can help create a gitlab account for you or you can write in to the helpdesk.
I shall send you a message and you can send me the details on that.
thanks for the quick response and sorry for the general state of the internet where we still have to deal with trolls and spammers on a daily basis. I appreciate your tireless work on this forum.
I guess my main point is that the cryptic error message “your email is not acceptable” would be a lot better if it weren’t so cryptic and would tell the user what to do to sign up. I think last time I just rolled my eyes and gave up.
