@Miraceti, from my point of view, there is one enjoyable option: Buy online in Europe a smartphone with a /e/ OS, for example a Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE International - "klte" (SM-G900F).
The shipping costs are about AUD 22.00 Australian Dollar (e. g. from Germany to Australia). Some paperwork is necessary because of the customs (duty / customs declaration, etc.), but with good will it is easy to do.
According to my information there are three network operators in Australia: Optus, Vodafone Hutchison and Telstra. The most common radio frequencies in Australia are 900 and 1800 MHz (LTE G4 network frequencies).
That sounds like an excellent idea however according to the e.foundation site the e.foundation will not ship phones to Australia and they donāt seem to have S5 LTE phones available. Is their site information not up to date? Do they sell European G900F S5 phones?
āPremium refurbishedā smartphones with /e/ pre-loaded are currently only the four Samsung models Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge and Galaxy S9 / S9+ With the best will in the world, I cannot imagine that a Galaxy S5 would ever be accepted into this illustrious circle.
The fact that a shipment is currently only made within Europe has certainly something to do with the much greater administrative burden.
In the European Union (EU) there are no borders, no import duties, no declaration of goods and the like. A mutual exchange of goods is possible almost without any restrictions. The shipping of smartphones is only a matter of shipping costs, which vary from country to country.
As a private person and great supporter of /e/ philosophy and /e/ volution I can help you with the purchase of Smartphones with pre-installed /e/ OS ROM. Read more in my PM.
