Unable to switch on my fairphone

Hello,

I bought a fairphone 6 with Murena (e/OS) a few days ago. I think the version of e/OS was 3.1.4.
It was working well. I charged the battery during the night. The Fairphone was on when I plugged in the charger last night, and this morning it is off and impossible to turn back on. I pressed the power button and the power + volume up buttons for more than 10 seconds, but nothing works—I still can’t turn it on. As far as I know, there was no overheating or any other issue. Has anyone else had this problem? Do you have a solution to fix it?

Remove the accu, count to 10 and put it in again.

I take it your FP6 does not show any sign of life when you (re-)connect it to charge?

If it does llight up, here is a trick how to boot Fairphones :three:, :four:, :five: and :six: without any button:

Thank you for the advice. I imagine that opening the Fairphone will void the warranty. Do we have any explanation for this malfunction, which occurred less than a week after I started using it?

You can always open the case and take out the accu. Note: changing the accu (and other parts) is a use case the device is made for. This doesn’t affect any guarantee because this is not even to detect by anyone, as long as you don’t damage the backside.

Is the video still available somewhere? I can’t have access to it?

Invidious or Youtube “Fairphone 6 replace accu”

(If you mean to reply to ME,) I do not know if zalamander’s video is available somewhere. I never watched the video. To me, the written instructions are so easy that I do not need the video.

Something similar happened to my FP6 a few time (2 or 3 times in 2 months): When I turn it on, fully charged, the back flash light comes on, but the device doesn’t boot at all. I have no explanation why this happens. I have to keep pressing the power button for 20 seconds, then the light goes out. Then I press and keep again the power button for 10 to 20s and the device boots normally…

Strange, but it’s hopefully very rare…

I am also unable to turn on my fairphone 6 with /e/os. It was on ~65% charge, I put it on a charger (that it charged fine on before), it was right next to me for about 20 minutes, then I wanted to check something and saw that it’s off. Not overheated (not even warm), didn’t make any sounds, but it’s just dead.

What I tried:

  • holding the power button for 5, 10, 20 seconds
  • holding the power button and the volume up button for 5, 10, 20 seconds
  • taking the battery out and putting it back again

Absolutely nothing works, the phone is dead. I’ve only had it for a few weeks.

Hello,

I encountered exactly the same problem as nixie. I had just started charging my Fairphone 6 (running Murena 3.1.5, I think, received on 12/24) for 1 minute when it suddenly shut down without warning. Despite pressing and holding the power button (sometimes + volume buttons +/-) and despite removing and reinserting the battery, it won’t turn back on.

What should I do?

I haven’t been able to upgrade to version 3.3 yet (it won’t download). Could that be related?

Thank you in advance for your help.

have you tried other boot mode method ?

Boot Modes

Recovery

With the device powered off - hold Volume Down + Power, then select “Recovery mode” using Volume keys.

Download

With the device powered off - hold Volume Down + Power

Yes, for at least 20 seconds, and it doesn’t offer me the option to restart in recovery mode. The screen remains off.

Did you try the Fairphone method linked in Post#2?

If you bought from /e/ you should also ask via Contact Us note 5 -7 day response time.

Yes, I tested it at lunchtime, and it’s still not working properly. I waited two minutes for it to charge before giving up. I really don’t understand what happened… I’ll contact customer service. Thank you for your help.

as i understand, the advise was for just a second…

I bought 2 fp6, one for myself, one for my daughter. 3 month later, my fp6 died, black screen of death. No tweeks worked. Just sad, 4 month later, my daughter also encountered the black screen. Seems to be more than just a small problem…
