We wanted to give you an update on Android 14 for Fairphone 3. After extensive research, we have made the difficult decision not to upgrade the Fairphone 3 to Android 14. The legacy Linux kernel (4.9) used in the Fairphone 3 poses significant challenges for the upgrade. It currently offers limited support for Android 13, and would not support Android 14 at all.
Going forward, any possible contributions from Fairphone directly might be very limited, of course, but I don’t see how it would be impossible for /e/OS developers to continue.
There’s always a newer model already in the development stage.
You chose your current phone for reasons. As long as it does what you need it to do and still gets security updates, or can be helped into those conditions, why replace it?
I know what your mean. The NEW and Improved Version. My background was in Industry, not consumer products. Helped design really boring things like the backup power for airport radar or the PWM drives for the trains Siemens built. You did it right the first time and there was no notice that parts and service ended after 3 or 4 years.
