Updater: No os upgrades offered and/or notified - no os updates found since a long time

Hi

From the Murena store, I bought a Fairphone 4. /e/ OS version is 1.17-s20231109350748-stable-FP4.

Running Settings - Updater and clicking on the refresh button gives me: "You are running the latest /e/OS version.

Apparently this is not true? There seem to be newer builds based on Android 12 with security fixes, e.g. 1.20?

But got never informed about those. I got never informed, that my os is outdated no longer receives security fixes.

I also have never been informed, that e /OS/ 2 based on Android 13 is available.

Why? It is at least my expectation to get informed when buying a new, preinstalled phone from the Murena store.

Anyhow:
Question 1:
What can I do update to the lastest version of Android 12? I have tried to clear cache and storage of the Updater via Settings → All Apps → Show System → Updater → Force Stop &&&& … Updater → Storage and cache → Clear storage. Rerunning the update tool and clicking the refresh button still tells me, that I run the lastest version: 1.17

Question 2:
How can I upgrade to Android 13? I guess there is no OTA ugrade available for that? I.e. I need to use the Easy-Installer-Tool, complete wipe the system an reinstall a new one?

Thanks for some clarification.

Paul

Hello Paul, you will be likely to find answer in the fairphone section of this forum. You are not the first one with this problem.

You can also use the magnifier search tool (:mag:) to find relevant thread.

As a Customer this will apply

Getting help on the forum is all very well but it may get messy so Customer support may provide the best answer.

Meanwhile … there are a few technical issues you will face.

  • Most likely a locked bootloader
  • A stable build, now designated “official”. This should have received OTA Android version upgrade … but it was clearly missed.

It is a little unclear, but it has been suggested that when an OTA upgrade is marked “completed” it is no longer available OTA.

You probably can Upgrade without wipe data as there is available a copy of the current OTA update file:

This is not to be used as the regular install page.

Always be sure to have a good backup of essentials before any work like this.
