For some reason, my phone (Fairphone 3, Android 12) is still running on 1.18-s-20231207360611-stable-FP3. I checked for updates or new versions, but Updater keeps saying there are no updates available. I already emptied cache and storage of the Updater app following an advice from this forum, but that didn’t help either.
My husband is facing the same problem with his Pixel 2, based on Android 12, too.
What could we do to get updated to the latest version of /e/OS?
Under normal circumstances there should be ways to get the updater to offer further updates based on Android 12 (S) and a so-called OTA upgrade (over the air via the updater) to Android 13 (T) to your phone, but the server trouble at Murena got in the way, and now the older builds to facilitate all this updating and upgrading are still missing.
In your case the latest update is an Android version upgrade, so the situation still results in a block.
Officially you can install the latest version manually or via the Easy Installer … Install /e/OS on a Fairphone FP3/3+ - “FP3” … wiping user data, so a backup would be in order.
Unofficially, so-called dirty upgrades without wiping user data have been reported to work here and there, but for safety’s sake make a backup of everything important to you from the phone to somewhere safe in this case, too.
Here’s a post about the process in case you want to try … FP3 - Version 1.5-202210312300909 - #16 by piero (make sure to follow the references to earlier posts in this topic there, too, for better understanding).
Based on the current version on your phone the latest “OTA” download links for this process can be found at https://ota.ecloud.global/api/v1/FP3/official/ (the “stable” build type was relabelled to “official” a while ago, so that is still your build type), the latest download there would currently be e-2.6.3-t-20241217455358-official-FP3.zip.
The same situation applies to the Pixel 2 (minus the missing Android version OTA upgrade via the updater, the Pixel 2 got none from the start), so …
On the Pixel 2 there are no different install file formats, so the official install way can be turned into an unofficial dirty upgrade just by leaving out every step which wipes user data, which would be “Unlocking the bootloader” (done already anyway for the initial install) and “Format the device”.
Thank you very much for your detailed advice and instructions, @AnotherElk! I will try to follow your suggestions, but I will need some help from my brother, our family IT expert…
I will let you know what worked!
Happy New Year to everybody!
