I have a Samsung Galaxy 9 with preinstalled e/OS and am very pleased with it.
I just tried to install an application provided by my health insurer and after working on it for a long time a message came “not supported on Android 12 from 19th December”, so I would only get 10 days to use the application. This is a lifetime of less than 5 years - very short, for example Windows systems generally get updates for 10 years
Question: do updates come from e/Os or from Android?
Does Android 12 expire like e.g. Windows 7?
Does e/OS still support Android 12 and until when?
If I buy a phone with Android 15, how long will that be supported
Stock android 12 don’t receive android security updates but for the devices sold by murena, the OTA updates, still on A12 for samsung devices, do have the security patches.
Upraging to an unofficial e/OS will make you lose the advantage of OTA updates
So I understand that Murena is still providing updates and I can continue using the phone and there may be an update to Android 15 at some time. This is good.
The application I was trying to install is to access the German digital patient file and there are heavy security measures and it only works through the application plus proof of identity
@David5 there are topics here, where users succeed tweaking the installer identity in proprieties to make it work though…
but it is another subject.
(some App coming from Gogol Play Store but installed by AppLounge or Aurora could not work)
If Android is no longer providing updates but Murena still is, does this affect the GPS receiver?
I use the phone to navigate the bicycle and have noticed the location is sometimes inaccurate. I also have previous experience of trying to use an old phone without SIM-card to navigate but it wasn’t usable, it often had a delay of about 10 seconds until it located.
