so I have an X3 NFC Surya currently running on the latest A14 version of /e/. During the installation of my first install I made the error to not install the provided firmware version from the install site, only the latest available the MIUI directly from the phone.
The general usage of the phone for the time I have used it was fine. The only issue I have noticed is that the update process over the phone updater continuously fails. So every new update I install has to be done manually via loading from a PC.
This phone has since become my secondary phone and is not a necessity. Now with A15 out I would like to update the phone and my question is, whether I can install the provided firmware from the Surya install site or if it is not possible anymore after having a version of /e/ already installed.
Having the correct foundation for /e/OS is always important, in the case of surya the install gage says this about firmware
Before following these instructions please ensure that the device is currently using the firmware version mentioned below. If your current installation is newer or older than the required version, please upgrade or downgrade to the required version before proceeding by following this guide.
Unfortunately that page is 404.
The download will be a “Fastboot ROM” and it will be capable of downgrading Android version when applied correctly. One can search the specified build from the official or other trusted Xiaomi updater like MiToolv2 XiaoMiTool V2 - Modding of Xiaomi devices made easy
The fact that you are already on /e/OS will be no problem at all, tools like the above, or possibly the one you used to unlock the phone originally (once one learns how to use them) will even recover the phone from a soft bricked state.
