USB tether greyed out

Hello …
I am trying to USB tether my Redmi 4X (/e/OS: 0.18-20210815130098) to my Lenovo T450 laptop, but the “USB tether” switch is greyed out in Settings | Network & Internet | Hotspot & Tethering. Bluetooth tethering is activated, but I would prefer to “hardwire” connect to my laptop.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Hello,
Assuming that your phone is connected with USB to your laptop, did you try to change USB mode on the phone ?

I’ve had USB tether greyed out on USB cables that are old and worm out and on cables that don’t transfer data (they are just for charging). Testing with a USB cable that is known to work for transferring data - or buying a new cable might resolve the issue you are having.

Have you successfully tethered on the lenovo before?

Same issue on my fairphone 5 with a brand new usb-c cable to a lenovo laptop. This worked flawlessly on a older device with e and usb-a.
