Issue: I wanted to use JTX Board’s Journaling function and sync journal entries to my Murena account but JTX Board’s Journal interface would not recognize any of my existing Murena cloud calendars through DavX (not system app) on my phone.
I am using Lineage (without GApps) instead of /e/OS because of compatibility issues with some of my apps but I do continue to use the Murena account I set up while I was using /e/ and would like to return to /e/ someday.
Work: Did some trial-and-error calendar creation through DavX in my Murena account for journaling. After several tries, I was able to create a calendar that JTX Board was able to use for journal entries. It appears to be working and syncing to the cloud (not throwing any sync errors) and the calendar is visible in Murena cloud but no journal entries are visible even after creating a test entry and syncing multiple times.
Solution: After working to create a journaling calendar, it seems that Murena cloud calendars, to be usable by JTX Board for notes and journal entries, must NOT have the “Events” checkbox selected in “Possible calendar entries” when creating the calendar through DavX. For the calendar to be physically visible in Murena, the “Tasks” checkbox must be selected, but no entries can be seen or made from the Murena web interface. The “Notes / journal” checkbox must be selected (of course) to create journal entries. No calendars created via the Murena Cloud web interface are usable by JTX Board for anything but Task entries. Calendars created via DavX without the “Events” checkbox selected are not usable for regular calendar entries and are not visible in any Calendar apps on my phone.
Conclusion: I think it is safe to assume that Murena has partial support for vJournal and that JTX Board has a bug which prevents it from using calendars that can accept event entries (or it may be the nature of vJournal data to exclude events). The presence of journal entries in the cloud will have to be verified by deleting and recreating my DavX account or creating my account on a different phone. and seeing if journal entries are visible.
Murena currently has no interface for working with vJournal data so the existence of journal entries cannot be verified via the web interface.
Since vJournal is a solution looking for a problem and not used by many people, I don’t expect Murena to provide a web interface to view journal entries. Even the NextCloud Diary app is marked as “abandoned”. However, a journaling interface would be a nice addition to the Murena app suite for those few people who keep their diary in the cloud.
Side Note: Compared to the other calendars I have created via Murena cloud, the last item in the Address / URL of the calendars created by DavX is a long hyphenated hex string and not the calendar name. Likely not an issue.
