I am newbe here so hope this is in the right place. Admin please move if you see fit.
I have a Murena Google Pixel 7 purchased with/e/OS/ installed.
It is updated to 19 October 2024.
I am trying to load VLC media player from App Lounge. Notifications show “Installing VLC” and “downloading”. The download completes… And nothing happens. This before and afer the update and reboot.
I tried downloading from APK Mirror but could not find compatible version.
My experience is that a number of apps are not offered in the eAppLounge, but are available in the Aurora Store, for example. Also, the eAppLounge sometimes shows different results depending on the /e/OS-S or /e/OS-T release. The current VLC version 3.5.6 can also be installed via the F-Droid Store
I closed everthing, cleared the Storage as advised on the linked help page and restarted the phone. Several hours later I turned off the three sliders in advance privacy and tried to install VLC.
Exactly the same result. downloaded, started to install, then stopped and went to “retry”.
Is there a way to completely disable advanced privacy for a short time?
Closed all Apps, Cleared App Storage, Restarted, went to App Lounge anonymously and selected VLC.
It downloaded, started to install then ERROR, RETRY.
Tried downloading VLC 3.5.6 directly from F-Droid. Downloaded ok but when trying to install “There was a problem while parsing the package.”
Tried again and received “App not installed as app isn’t compatible with your phone”.
Tried installing Nova video player with the same result.
Simple Music Player installed rom App Lounge without problem!
I have also had no problems to update VLC 3.5.4 to 3.5.6 and then 3.5.7 recently via the App Lounge. However, the fact that there had not been an update after 3.5.4 for like 6-8 months and now two within a single week (and a 3.6.0 beta at the same time) makes me wonder if there is an issue with these most recent versions affecting some devices (other than my – apparently – non-affected Fairphone 3+).
On a different thought, did you notice the four different versions of 3.5.7 (13050704, 13050705, 13050706, 13050708)?
I tried two different version of 3.5.7… All with the same result.
From what you say and my own experience it would seem videolan are having issues. It is a shame as I find VLC excellent. Far better than the installed “Music” player.
As mentioned I have a Murena Pixel 7. (Ethicly I would prefer to have a Fairphone but for practical reasons I want a waterproof phone with a good camera. Initial impressions of the Pixel running /e/OS have been very good. Maybe my next phone.)
