VPN connection failed

Hi,
I just set up a VPN (IPSec) on a Fritzbox 5590. The connection via my e/os 3.0.2 (Nothing CMF1) connects but fails after a second. When I take my work phone Samsung A54, with android 15, I add the same type VPN it will connect directly and stay connected. The VPN type setup is IKEv2/IPSec PSK
I have no “hide my ip” or “fake my location” enabled.
Perhaps somebody has a clue :slightly_smiling_face:

I can look into this, but before… the fb 5590 can do wireguard, the sliced bread of vpn tech, what’s the reason you shy away from that?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply!
I used IPSec before and I could use it ‘out-of-the box’. Just enable it in the FB and use the connection settings on your phone. And it can work (before). I looked also into Wireguard but as far I understand I have to install an (extra) app on the phone. I looked in F-droid there I find an outdated version and via Auraro (anonymous) the WireGuard app doesn’t show up.

So I hope to configure the VPN without an extra app.
Cheers, Jan

Wireguard official is at their homepage (for reasons) or 3rd party wgtunnel at F-Droid, both opensource.

Okay I can give it a try. I just removed myfritz account, but when you want to use WireGuard you have to enable the myfritz account. I keep you posted

Yes that works! I installed WGTunnel, scanned the QR code from the FB. Switched to my data bundle and connected via WGTunnel. After that I could access my internal server/PC’s.
Thanks for the advice!

great! saves me debugging ipsec, oh wg is such a godsend - it’s in 5.6+ kernels natively and can be retrofitted to older kernels, then the official wg app will use that built-in mode opportunistically. Slightly better battery use I’d guess. I wonder if user with 5.6+ devices get the vpn option natively in Android settings

btw there is an ipsec issue in the backlog (by a Fritzbox 7590 user). Apparrently there was a IKEv1 deprecation in A12. You were using IKEv2 though so that attribution falls flat.
