VPN not working, unable to reconnect after any disconnect

updated to /e/ OS 12 on OnePlus Nord
VPN no longer works as expected.
On fresh install of VPN app, it works.
If disconnected for any reason, unable to reconnect.
VPN is: Private Internet Access
Was working on previous version of /e/ os
