Way too expensive cloud plans

Hello,

I was looking at the available cloud plans and I find that they’re very espensive.

I’d love to buy a cloud plan and switch to murena cloud for some activities, but the prices are just completely out of the market.

I can get a Filen 200gb plan for 1.99 a month, while here this gets me 20 gb.

I understand they’re different services with different functionalities, but the disparity is just too big.

It would be neat to have a ~2 euro-ish options with less functionalities (maybe just backup/files, calendar and notes?) with some meaningful storage, at least a little closer to market prices.

What do you think? Has Murena ever thought about this?

All queries regarding Murena plans and products are to be submitted using the query using the Contact Us form at this link https://murena.com/contact-us/ if not already done. The team would be able to help you further.

20GB here in Canada is $2.50 a month and it provides the security if the Murena cloud being in EU. I am not sure how much $2.50 Canadian is in Euro but it can’t be that much.

The Filen plan what is the data security of that plan, do you have any privacy rights?

Why not stick with the free 1GB plan from Murena and empty the cloud when it gets full if you don’t want to pay much/anything.

Edit: The Murena storage market prices are quite competitive from my comparisons. What is the privacy of Filen?

Filen is fully end to end encrypted and hosted in Germany.

I have 2TB at thegood.cloud for 10€/month.

It’s a nextcloud provider.

Data are hosted in Netherlands.

If Murena pricing or offer does not suit you, you can opt for any Nextcloud provider and sync everything to your smartphone using Nextcloud apps (or native /e/apps).

I know there are other nextcloud providers, my point was opening a discussion about murena cloud prices.

This is what I’m saying. The same on Murena would cost you 25€. It would be nice to be able to support Murena through a cloud subscription but personally I cannot justify paying 2.5x the price (or like 10x the price if I compare to Filen).

The forum is about /e/OS.

The forum is not really here for discussion of the commercial arm Murena.

Customers or potential customers can clearly make suggestions to that organisation as mentioned in Post #2.

The forum is for discussion on /e/OS and related services from the development standpoint. For complaints about sales and services you will have to write to the helpdesk.

thegood.cloud doesn’t provide the same services as Murena workspace. This maybe explain the price. I think if we want to compare Murena with another provider, we have to take a look at tab.digital which offer more or less the same features but is more expensive.

It depends what services you need.

@aibd Murena workspace is part of /e/OS and today if we want to backup our phone, we have to pay for more space.

I mean, I put it in the section called murenacloud, one would think the murenacloud section was for murenacloud. Murena cloud is a part of the services provided by Murena and currently the only way to back up our phones running e/OS. Didn’t know discussing prices was off limits.

@Manoj feel free to close the thread if you believe it breaches the scope of the forum.

That could be. I don’t really need the vast majority of features Murenacloud offers, this is why I was proposing a plan with less features and more GBs for people who just want backup storage and possibly a calendar.

Honestly, with the free 1Go cloud, I can backup absolutely everything, notes, email, but more importantly all apps backup, including system settings.
The only thing that made my Murena backup folder larger than 1Go was to force the email app to download 1500 past emails over 4 different emails addresses

I switched the murena account off (asked to get it blocked) as that silly cloud kept trying to put 70 GB from my phone into its 1 GB space.

I have unlimited Proton account with email, VPN including 500 GB cloud drive. I am not going to compare price as being old customer there I have it half price for some 5 euro.

What I wanted to say is, you may use other provider for most of your back up and keep 1 GB free murena cloud just for the basic phone details back up (settings, contacts etc.). It won’t do any harm.

Personally I am not that bothered, I have a copy of contacts in .vcf and most of old pictures on old razr2022 with main screen broken. The proton drive took 280GB+ of my laptop files on RJ45 connection 1.7-1.8 GBps over maybe 12 hours and I am not gonna wait for ages to back up 70GB off the mobile handset

I think I don’t trust any cloud really (old me) and utilised proton one only after useless windows 11 had crashed one day and I thought, why not to be precautious if it’s there. But I prefer local backups, I have 250GB nano card with nano card reader USB/USB C compatible - it was not that expensive and I paid once not monthly.

Using cloud, you use one of those horrible data centres which use plenty of water, energy and are affecting environment around them BTW

What services does the Murena cloud provide that the thegood.cloud does not? Both are NextCloud instances, and thegood.cloud had the benefit of not being a fork, so it gets new features and bugfixes as soon as they are implemented in NextCloud.

I know Murena also provide an email address, bit that is very restricted - to the point of being unusable for serious work - in the free tier. I use Mailbox.org as my email provider, and their €3/month plan also provides cloud storage and contacts / calendar sync
