Weak vibration motor on FP6

I’m running e/OS v3.0.4 on a Fairphone 6 and the vibration motor seems pretty weak. I can’t seem to find any way to adjust the strength of the vibration motor. All I can do is turn on/off the vibrations. Is this a missing feature on e/OS? If so, could this be added in a future build? Or is there any way to adjust this using an app or Tasker?

Hi, I’m having problems with the haptic feedback too. It’s the same phone and version.

In my case, there is no vibration at all. Neither the keyboard, alarm nor dialling produces any vibration.

I have tried all the settings and different keyboard apps.

Is there a way to test whether it’s a hardware or software issue?

By the way, in Settings > System > Keyboard > AOSP keyboard settings, you can adjust the length of the vibration to 100 ms, maybe that will help you.

You may try to install Fairphone Checker app in Fdroid. It will let you check the vibtation motor. Mine works in this app but is weak. If you don’t get any vibration at all, that is probably a hardware issue.

I tried, nothing, so it is hardware.

Thanx for the tip.

Maybe the vibration motors are not the best quality, but they can sort this out I hope.

To be confirmed it seems the vibration motor is part of the bottom speaker assembly, which is a spare part a d reasonably priced. You may ask fairphone (over the chat) if you could buy one and change it yourself, and if it solves the problem, have them reimburse the cost of that part? May be quicker and easier than having to send the device in for warranty… But you should confirm this with them.

Thank you for your help and suggestions.

I have written to them about this and asked for a spare part.

If I have a spare speaker module, I will check if I can disassemble it, remove the vibrating motor and see if I can find a stronger replacement on AliExpress.

That may solve my problem too

Yep want to help you too.:slightly_smiling_face:

Hi!

Just an update. Fairphone arranged for a delivery to check my phone. For this, I had to perform a factory reset. When I did this, I felt a slight vibration when restarting the phone. I got through the first few setup steps, and then I found out that the vibration function was working. I went through the whole setup process for the apps and settings, and now everything is working fine.

Hi,

I also experience this problem on FP6 with e/OS: the vibration appear to not work (even when using the checkup app) but whenever I reboot the phone, a small vibration is still present. I wonder if this is a problem coming from the OS, I don’t know if someone else have a similar issue.

Regarding the possible solution: I just end up installing everything, so I am reluctant to do a factory reset now. I will try in a month and see if it works.

Exactly the same here. Fairphone 6 with preinstalled /e/OS. Vibration stopped working after 2 weeks, I don’t know, what caused it. No app oder telephone code can move that thing, I even tryed to test the vibrator over adb. But when I start the phone, there is a very short vibration during early boot phase.

My guess is, that it’s a driver problem and the os can’t access the motor. A factory reset would probably fix is, but after I have some activated banking apps and 2FA apps activated on the device, I don’t wanna do that.

I’m waiting for the next update now an hope, that will fix it…

I suggest a useful test would be the app (Fairphone) Checkup which can run a 2 second test on the vibration motor.

I did, but unfortunately with no reaction.

Hi all,

I might be useful to some: I discovered a way to let the vibration work again. I went to Setting/Keyboard and I deactivated the “Redirect Vibration” option. After that, the vibration started working again, both in the Checkup app and when receiving call/messages/etc. Give it a try!

I don’t know if it is an expected behavior or not, but maybe this can be investigated by one of the e/OS team.

I also deactivated “Redirect Vibration” and than I went to Settings / System / Options for Reset / Reset App settings. This doesn’t delete your data, only the settings of the apps. This did the job, vibration works again, even before reboot!! :slightly_smiling_face: You should reboot nevertheless. And give all apps permissions again like notifications etc

According to ChatGPT there might be settings overlaying other settings and blocking them.
