Webrtc local IP leaking

Hello to all!

New here, I was just reading a post on vivaldi’s forum about webrtc leaking the local IP of the phone, as seen on browserleaks.com. I gave it a shot in e/OS default browser and I realized the same behaviour. When Settings > Websites Settings > WebRTC is Enabled, then, my device’s local IP is exposed. I really don’t know much of it, but could someone comment on it?

it’s a deliberate decision since 2023: Browser: enable webrtc by default (c9fdcd75) · Commits · e / os / Browser · GitLab

I’m a bit of a fan of webrtc but I understand why it is contested feature.

A dialog should popup if a website wants to use webrtc and then be allowed?

Well, my consern is not if it is enabled by default, but, if it should expose my LAN’s inner IP, when enabled. Such as 10.77.0.13. Public IP shown is legitim.

In any ways, thank you for answering

ah ok, got it, thanks for restating. There’s a patch in cromite that is listed in /e/s imports:

will look at this on the weekend

Hi!

For me all this is deep waters in the open sea…

But I’m glad you are aware of the situation.

:face_blowing_a_kiss: Kisses!

had a look, but inconclusive. In its defaults the leak happens, but the first time I tried (before resetting the Browser App) it blocked the leak. I can’t seem to find out what config state my browser was in before resetting.

Can I somehow export mine?
