What countries do these phones work in?

Hi, I live in New Zealand. Will a phone upgraded to this operating system work in New Zealand?

Hi! That’s determined by the device and the frequencies that are built in to it, rather than the OS.

So what you would need to do, if you want to use e/OS, is:

  1. See which devices have an /e/ build, either official or unofficial.
  2. Tentatively decide on a device.
  3. Check that device’s specifications (particularly frequencies) to see if it works on one or more carriers in your area.

If you already have a device in mind, search its model number here in the forum to see if there’s a build for it.

Or you can search for the List of Official Builds and/or List of Unofficial Builds.

Hope that helps. Welcome!

P.S. If your carrier requires VoLTE for phone calls, or if you feel you will need it, you should probably avoid Samsungs, as they’re problematic for VoLTE with a custom ROM installed, it seems.

Search the full model number of any device you’re considering, as versions of a given phone produced for different regions of the world can come into play.

This may help you research frequencies and carriers in NZ: Site Search - FrequencyCheck

And you can look up most any phone’s specs at the website above, or at https://www.gsmarena.com/

Thank you for all of the information. I’ll do some research and post what I find. Clearly if I use a phone that is sold and supported in NZ in its standard form then its likely to be ok with e/OS. Samsung is by far the most common phone available here of the ones you support but I’ll check if VoLTE is a requirement

Only if there exists an e/OS build for that particular phone. Many phones, especially the latest models, don’t have an /e/OS build yet, because of there being no LineageOS build for them. (/e/ builds are based on Lineage builds.)

I was planning to try a Samsung S7 as they are cheap to buy and will give me a good idea of the useability of e/OS.

NZ does not use VoLTE much for voice yet. It’s starting to be used but most voice is carried on the 3g network.

Not sure if you got your answer or not, but the answer is: YES.

I live in New Zealand and have upgraded to /e/OS two phones so far: Samsung S7 edge and Samsung S10+ - both of them work flawlessly on NZ networks.

Disclaimer: I haven’t tried any spark sim card in either of these phones, but I see absolutely no reason why Spark wouldn’t work.
