What Keyboard Is Everyone Using?

Hi friends!

So, I’m finally taking the plunge and trying to move to an A14-based ROM…and the rumors are circulating that my long-held APK for Swype is unlikely to work anymore. There are some workarounds I might try, but getting proactive…I definitely like the sliding functions of Swype; I still think it’s better than most of the other keyboards I’ve tried. The three heavyweights in keyboards that do this are the Samsung keyboard, the Google keyboard, and Swiftkey, now owned by Microsoft…all of which are…less-than-ideal choices for obvious reasons.

The /e/OS keyboard is serviceable, but I figured that I’d query for some suggestions from users who have a preferred third party keyboard they use with /e/OS.

Thanks!!

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/OS the deGoogled mobile OS and online servicesphone

I use SwiftKey since long long. Since I’m rooted I just withdraw every single permission via App Ops and XPrivacyLua und forbid it to connect to the internet via AFWall+. Advanced Privacy does its job and to kill rest is blocked in TrackerControl - although quit useless since the app has no internet access anyway. This way I can use the best keyboard around (for me) without it spying on me.

Typewise (ch.icoaching.typewise), not for swiping but also not from big brand.

HeliBoard does the job.

/e/OS isn’t based on Android 14 yet, so there’s still time.

I’m just using the default keyboard (AOSP).

Well, truth be told, I was considering trying another degoogled ROM and tying my /e/Cloud account to it. My phone is a Nothing Phone 2, which has known issues with AOSP ROMs prior to A14, specifically with incoming SMS…so whether I try a different degoogled ROM or wait until Ronnz98 does his usual awesomeness, the thought still needed to be posed. Moreover, there’s nothing saying I can’t try the options listed here on my A13 /e/OS phone and start shifting my habits proactively.

I’m using Thumb-Key. Changed my life. It’s open source, highly customizable and privacy conscious, plus I can type so much faster now.

I am interested by answers. I don’t like very much the default /e/os keyboard. I typed slower than with the default stock Android keyboard I had on my smartphone with stock Android 11 (I guess it was gboard…).

heliboard is easier for me to use than the default stock android keyboard, don’t forget to turn on the key for emoji in the setting if you want to use them

I use AnySoftKeyboard, it’s open source, no trackers and can be adjusted with language packs etc
