I recently got a Fairphone5 with /e/OS. I am looking for a digital wallet app. The one usually working on Android, Google Wallet, can be installed but is not functional: the screen is empty and it shows an error message when I select “add to wallet”:
Not yet supported: com.google.android.gms.pay.homescreen.additem.ADD_ITEM
My questions are:
is there another digital wallet app that can be used on eOS?
Is there a way to make Google Wallet work on eOS?
If not available yet, will it be available in the near future?
I’m not aware of a compatibility issue concerning google wallet on /e/OS, but i’m pretty sure that if you look for a wallet in the f-droid app you’ll see plenty of alternatives that may suit you.
Concerning the google wallet, check for the google billing requests to be selected in Settings > system > microG > google play services > Allow billing request.
Thanks for the answer @VinK3645!
I had noticed that setting some time ago and switched it on, reinstalled Google Wallet etc. but it still gave me the same error when I tried to add a card to it. So unfortunately it didn’t help.
Given that this is serious stuff, I would rather try an app that has been tested and recommended by people on this forum than just test anything at random, especially since I cannot see the users reviews on App Lounge. I haven’t tried f-droid, would you recommend it instead of App Lounge?
I’m still hoping that someone out there is using a phone wallet app with e/OS/ and will show up!
Unfortunately i’m not using that kind of apps and i can’t recommend you any apps. I’m sorry that the microG settings did not help. Maybe you should open an issue on the /e/os gitlab ?
Concerning f-droid, this is an open-source app repository. It means that EVERY apps there is non-proprietary. You don’t have to fear for your data (except if you get a virus from elsewhere, f-droid is a safe repository and each app has been tested.)
This sounds amazing as I found it very much useful and informative to be honest. Also, I have gone through this post which definitely helped me out a lot as a new member I am looking forward for more such discussions.
