As the title says, from the camera apps I can only access the last taken photo/video. I often have to scroll through the latest pics and delete some of those. One of the camera apps can’t even delete the one latest item. Switchng apps constantly to perform a simple task is s not very comfortable. Is there an option somewhere to show all items in the camera apps?

I guess this is because
- you didn’t configure the location where the pictures are stored at all or
- you specified a path where storing pictures is forbidden because of missing permissions or
- you specified a path which requires the Storage Access Framework and you didn’t allow the Camera app to use it.
When this is the case only the last picture remains in a temporary memory in the Camera app and will be overwritten by the next picture you take.

So, I bought that phone, turned it on and took a few photos. The photos are visible in the gallery, so I can safely suppose that the camera and the gallery know where the pictures are to be stored and retrieved. BTW, I a can expect from a vanilla install, that the paths are sensibly pre-configured.
And the permissions, ok. I see that one camera has permission “Camera and Microphone” the other has “Camera, Microphone and Photos and Videos”. Neither app does show more than the latest photo/video. Also, in Settings → App Permission there is not option to add a permission to an app.
And to clarify, I did not specify an path to anything at all, everything is in factory settings.

May be. But I can tell you from my experience that showing only the last picture is the typical behavior of the Camera app when it can’t store taken pictures. I would check this. May be there are also more reasons why the Camera app can’t save a file there. I would also check if another gallery app works better. The stock app had an issue years ago being not very fast after taking a picture, and sometimes it showed also empty pictures despite of the pictures were good.
Related to your opening post:
- It would also be good when you could define the term “camera apps” (plural). GCam ports do normally not allow to specify a storage path.
- Showing taken pictures is normally not a task of the camera app(s). The principle is that the camera app has a button to open the configured gallery app. That’s why you must handle two apps. Because of that it’s a good idea to delete unwanted or bad pictures later (at the end of the day), not while you are taking pictures. So you don’t have to switch these apps again and again.

Since I started the phone for the first time, there are two camera apps both title only “Camera”. As I just found out, one is e’s camera app the other one is Fairphone’s (the phone manufacturer’s) camera app. Both only display the last only the one latest pic.
Yes, I would really like exactly that. I don’t care whether the pics are shown in camera or gallery. I just want a quick way from “taking pictures” to “dealing with pictures”. And usually, this is realized by that button you mentioned. However, now on FP6 with /e/ it does not work like that and I try to figure out a way to get I working.

Determine the path a concrete camera app would use for storage. Either the app has an option for setting this path or the path is just hard coded /storage/emulated/0/Pictures which is then just your Pictures folder in your device memory.
The /e/OS stock Camera app has an option in it’s Settings. Under More camera controls … there is Save location. Take a picture with this app and look using a file manager app at the given path if there really arrived a file. Note: this can take a remarkable time, ten seconds or so, this depends a lot on your camera’s resolution and compression level. If there’s an ordinary .jpeg file everything is OK, if not the camera app can’t save.
One option beneath is Storage Access Framework which should be ON, especially if your desired picture storage path points onto the SD card.
Repeat this also with your FairPhone app regardless if it has an option for setting the path or not (don’t know). Somewhere must occur an ordinary .jpeg file, the gallery app(s) depend(s) on it.
If you could prove that you have indeed files (taken by your two camera apps) open your gallery app and look if the pictures are there. If they are not there the problem is rather in the gallery app. Perhaps you have a filter there or excludes or something.
Note also: because of the slow file storing (and a picture typically is a big file) also the gallery app takes a remarkable time to find and show a picture.
Hi I also have issue with this. Surely it should be possible to flick through past photos whilst in the camera app but I can’t see any settings to change which will allow this. And I’m not sure how to change the paths
