Why does the email client show images by default?

Why does the email client show images by default?
It’s a fork from k-9 mail and by default, images are disabled on k-9 mail. I had to install k-9 mail due to constant syncing issues with the stock client. I have disabled the stock email client. Has this been fixed recently? Thanks.

Hi,

This is a feature of the 1.21 version (see release note). They increased the default value of the size of incoming emails to 2 Mo because some users complained they never got images.

But you can reduce this value if you go to the settings of the Mail app, your account, incoming emails. It should prevent the Mail app to show images if you select something like 1 Mo or less.

See also the issue discussion on gitlab.

Showing images is a privacy/security risk, sender can see if email received. Images should be disabled by default, maybe a dialog prompt should ask once email configured if there is a good reason to be enabled by default in the first place. You can disable images in settings but not disabled by default.
