Why threema is not installed as standard?

I use threema which is an end-to-end secure messaging application without any obligation to provide personal information.

This messaging service is really designed to protect data and privacy.

It would be nice if e os installed it as standard and/or offered an offer as well.

Why Threema is not integrated with e os ?

Because it’s not free.

And ? Many people want a messaging with such great freedom and without having to provide personal information, privacy is so unimportant for e/os users?

Knowing that by default by switching to a degoogled os it is precisely for the security side of private life and data, so this kind of messaging application should be integrated.

Or Murena resellers could integrate it

Ps: same signal asks for a phone number, it’s free but by integrating your personal data…

Why are you trying to frame it this way? This kind of argument is so primitive and tiring. “XYZ isn’t doing a certain thing I want, I’ll have to force this into some grand binary context to make what I want seem like the only viable choice against some despicable darkness.”

So installing this App would be necessary for privacy, while there is no App preinstalled which gets replaced? How does this work logically?

Who prevents any /e/OS user from installing this App?
Why can’t /e/OS users make this choice themselves?
Is freedom of choice so unimportant to you?

Sorry that it annoyed you

I chose e/os for the data security part, basically it leaves the choice by still being able to use certain apps in connection with Google.

Only I do not understand that he is talking about Signal and that it needs your personal information (phone number), if we want to keep our privacy as much as possible in messaging we must only recommend a messaging that will be 100% without using anything in personal data.

If it is to use Telegram, whats app, FB messenger etc …

Why switch to e/os …

Anyway, I only talked about a messaging.

So that was my question, why not preinstall Threema (unless another equally good application exists) which is without data collection, without tracker, without personal information etc …

Which corresponds to the e/os policy .

Unless I’m wrong of course.

Privacy, not security.

Doesn’t matter at all.

The question is: why should a free OS preinstall a paid app? Or in other words: why should a free OS make itself dependent on a concrete commercial app? What then about other paid apps? This patronizes both users and app providers. I have already a problem with the free preinstalled apps I almost don’t use. - Every user can test and chose (and buy) and install what he wants on his own, any time, also several things side by side, so where’s your problem?

Related to messengers there’s still another relevant aspect: the very most people (which is just a synonym for “everyone”) depend on a community - that’s the reason why many people still use this ridiculous Whatsapp. I know exactly nobody who uses Threema (even here in CH), so why should I not only have it preinstalled on my device but indeed also pay for it? I have then a well protected privacy I can’t even use.

Nobody needs more preinstalled apps, it would indeed be better to have less.

Threema is not free as in FOSS (Free and Open-Source Software) so it cannot be trusted as it cannot be verified.

Session is the next big thing. We should all move to session for anonymity/privacy.

It is FOSS.

HTH

If session is free it is because there is a reason … if the possibility of creating an account 100% without any personal information, encrypted, all data kept just on our smartphone etc … that can be an idea.

On the other hand I would trust a paid application much more than a free one. nothing is ever free

Anyone who values Swiss quality and discretion should take a look at the Messenger TeleGuard

  • All servers are located in data centers in Switzerland.
  • Complex encryption system for all transmitted data.
  • No storage of user data on the servers.
  • No connection to a telephone number and no collection of user identification data

Someone said that when you’re not paying for a product, then you are the product. But i do believe that open source app are the solutions ! If you’re using a foss app that is not relying on web server then you’re in control. The main issue with messengers is that you need web servers to get it working. In this case… Ye people needs money so they gotta find a way to earn it. But donations exist !! Look at proton ! Their price are definitly under their needs, but donations are enough to allow them maintain and meliorate their services and earn a living !!

They have a FOSS client Repo, not sure if you knew that

You need a Threema licence, then one can install Threema Libra via F-Droid

You can also find it in App Lounge :

Threema Libre is better , it’s totally without Google service , just install in the F-Droid or app lounge (open source) and let’s go .

Just take key in the official shop Threema =).

If you take it on google you will be dependent on your google account, it will not be possible to use it without. So the simplest remains the official store

I use the normal Threema app which works without problems. You can disable google-dependent Services in the settings and also you don’t need a google Account in the first place.

By the way, Threema has been audited multiple times.

Edit: Unless you meant the key but you can get it from Threema directly as well without the playstore.

Thanks for that, didn’t know that.

One concern, compared to session, is that threema still has a KYC link by having to buy a license key.

If that can’t happen over secure channels it will be tracing back to the user.
Just like a phonenumber for signal.

If the user has purchased several keys for several people, it is difficult to accuse.

Also, payment via BTC is also done and also payment in cash, so there is everything you need to use Threema.

For me no KYC because you id threema is not link with your key .

Apart from the payment method, Threema does not use any data or other user uses, unlike other free ones with a phone number.
