Wifi vs. internet connection test

I discovered another interesting issue in the Wifi connection yesterday. Apparently, after Wifi connection is established there is another test if the internet connection is possible. Yesterday this test failed for whatever reason and the connection is dropped after the test failure, although the internet connection actually was working (tested by different web pages in the few available seconds). To add insult to injury the Wifi driver refuses to automatically reconnect until manually clicking on connect again.

I don’t really understand why this happens or how the availability test works. Anyway, the Wifi connection should not be closed. The test can apparently fail even if everything else works. Additionally, there might be use cases for connecting into an internal Wifi network, e.g. at school or collage. Can this behaviour be changed in the next releases?

Be careful.

/e/ has normally a mobile data connection open even when a wifi connection is used successfully. When the wifi connection fails because you move out of it’s range or the router’s internet connection fails suddenly so that your device still has wifi but sees no internet over wifi anymore the device switches immediately to the background mobile connection.

To get reproducible test results you must switch off the background mobile data connection. There’s an option in the developer settings. This option is ON by default.

Good point. Mobile data is always off at home so there is indeed only the Wifi connection. This is necessary as the Murena Two Wifi connection is still a mess and I don’t want to use a whole month worth of mobile data for an app update or something like that again.
