with the Wireguard VPN it possible to connect remotely (while traveling) to the home router and also surf via the home connection instead of the mobile connection. I therefore wish to stay connected all of the time with my router. However, when the IP Address of my home router changes (at night) , the VPN tunnel connection automatically gets stuck and doesn’t work anymore. Then also all internet is blocked (WLAN and mobile connection). I then need to manually disable and re-enable the Wireguard VPN connection.
To make this process automatic or semi-automatic, there are a few options.
-
use the Automate app with a community flow - see also this post. I don’t like this option since I have to install a non- Open Source app and give it a few permissions.
-
Use a script with the Automation app in order to automatically disable and enable the Wireguard tunnel. I have not tried this and it probably requires root permissions to run the script.
-
Use the Android App Automation in order to create a notification at a specific time (e.g. in the morning. This could at least remind you that you have to disable/enable the tunnel.
-
Tasker App (similar to Automation app) may also work but is also not Open Source.
I’ve not yet come across an easy solution with an Open Source app. If someone knows it, please comment.
