Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime (Land) Network Issue [GSM only working]

Flashed /E/ version 0.14 on my redmi 3s prime Baseband is NNS V052. I fiddled with stock network type settings but only GSM works properly with DATA. No 3G or LTE or VoLTE(Signal Strength -93 dBm 10 asu) .

Using ##4636## i switched to LTE only (Signal Strength -120 dBm 99 asu) but network is not registering with operator. Works fine with other devices though.

Baseband seems to be latest. I certainly don’t know how to diagnose this band issues.

Anyone kindly help.

I have never had such problems with the Redmi 3S. I also have eOS 0.14 installed and the only problem is that new contacts cannot be saved on the device or in the /e account.

To begin with something simple, can you try to cross-swap the SIM with a friend’s ?
Ideally using a different network provider.

Was network ok with previous ROM ?

If you want to re-flash your modem, here is a generic how-to that may not work with your device :

Of course, I decline any responsibility in case of bricked device

Hey @smu44 thanks for the link.

Also to answer your question i did change multiple SIM’s even OS’s [Tried UBUNTU] just to check whether it helps. But NO, the issue persists.

Up until a month this was my daily driver on /e/ 0.12 [under OTA updates only]. Network was working perfectly fine.

Rather than flashing the specific modem firmware in fastboot, which may or may not render the device unusable. Can i simply flash the entire firmware using TWRP recovery itself.

Yes, in fact that’s quite simple

Just put the zip file in your phone (let’s say Downloads folder).
Boot to TWRP, mount your media partition.
Then install the zip file using TWRP built-in function (in my example, you will find it in something like /data/media/0/Downloads).

Yeah just tried flashing latest available firmware using TWRP recovery. No effect on the network front. Flashing was successful though.

Chose LTE only and tried searching the network manually but couldn’t connect
Attached #4636# info.

Did you hide IMEI and IMSI, or where they empty ?

After changing preferred network type to “LTE/CDMA/UMTS auto (PRL)” and (below) “Cell info refresh rate” to “Immediate”, what do you see at bottom (All Cell Measurement Info) ?

Apologize for such an delayed reply.

Yes. I hide those identifiers.

And this is the cell

So, you have LTE signal, with a fair signal strength.
(I have a R in SRV column, but not sure of the meaning …).
You may call your network provider and check your APN settings.

Thanks @smu44 i tried it . APN settings are fine they say. They say just restart your handset and wait for it to register … :joy:

Funny thing is everything works when I force the Network into 2G. Calls , data … Etc … No drop in network too.???

I really don’t wanna go through the process of flashing the Stock ROM and flash back /e/ . Redoing Mi unlock approval is pain in the A** and may end up with same situation.:face_with_head_bandage:🤦

Guess I can only use it Wifi’2G only device. :weary:

So, it’s not an APN neither a signal reception problem.

Flashing the firmware only (see previous post) will not put you back to MIUI, it will only flash … firmware
If you wish I can validate the whole process on a Xiaomi (Redmi 4X) testing device, although it’s already at the latest level.

I’m lost here @smu44 . Are you suggesting for full Stock ROM flash ???

I did tried flashing the firmware but issue persists.

Oh ! Sorry, I got confused with another similar topic :frowning:

Unfortunately, I’m out of ideas …
You can try to watch logcat output while switching airplane mode off and on, maybe will it show some netword-related error ?
If you need help with this I’ll be happy to assist.

Hi,
I had this issue a long time ago, I tried reinstall many time, I even changed of provider.
Finally I had to :

  • Reinstall MIUI using XiaomiMiFlash
  • Reinstall /e/

I had done a lot of reinstall, and i guess I wiped too much things during tests. I don’t think I had to ask for a new unlock approval.

I also re-installed MIUI when migrating for Oreo to Pie.
I had to re-apply for unlock, but unlike the first time it was instantaneous.

Hi @q3adr did your MiFlash method worked?
Did you get your device to register with any provider. ?

No, I’m french, our mobiles phones aren’t anymore registered/blocked to providers, we can use any phone with any provider (if I had understood your question).
With this issue if I remember well, GSM was working but no data whatever the provider selected. I always have 2 SIM with 2 different provider, 1 for phone with few data and 1 for data both weren’t working before the full reset/MIU reinstall/e reintstal.
Actually I’d even change the provider of my second SIM cause it was a new one. I thought it was linked to them but afterall no issue on it.

Hi @smu44 i’ve attached some LogCat files. I went through switching the network from GSM only to WCDMA only then finally to LTE while taking these logs. Hopefully someone in this forum find out the fish. Also i tried turning ON & OFF the mobile data.

LogCat Log/ Modem Log/Event Log
Scrubbed LogCat

Hi,

What I can see in modem.log (I’m not a specialist  ) :

  • at 03-21 22:03:37.769 : Voice and Data get registered (UMTS+HSPA), you have both carriers
  • at 03-21 22:03:38.039 : “default” APN is found valid
  • at 03-21 22:03:38.242 : network registered
After that, network seems enabled, until 03-21 22:09:56.899 : is it when you switched to LTE ?
  • at 03-21 22:10:04.167 : phone is searching for carrier
  • unfortunately, at 03-21 22:10:22.085 search couldn’t find a carrier :frowning:

Note : you may want to disable roaming, as your network provider doesn’t seem to support it.

Sorry not to be helpful here, maybe others could provide you with more accurate support …
The good news is, as it worked with 0.12 /e/ it’s not hardware-related

For the reference :

Also, you may want to try Network Signa Guru app (com.qtrun.QuickTest), checked against Exodus it reported 0 tracker, but requires root and display ads.
