add “linux distribution or macOS” in requeriments. because to execute the step 4 in the Installing a custom recovery using fastboot
section is required to use a macOS or linux distro due a bug with fastboot for windows and advice the user about this problem. that maybe it would need to use a linux distro or macOS.
Also advice the user about missing required files to install the recovery. for example the super_empty.img
can be downloaded from the lineageOS.
Hello,
i moved my Redmi 7A europe German version with 2gb ram to eOS and i got in some issues, so i want to share my success, so you can do it also.
at first, bevor you start, connect your redmi with the mi ui account, because with the app and the give ui, you cant add your mobile number into that account, you need your phone to do it.
you can go to settings, scroll down and start with create an miui account.
then, download miui unlocker v6 AND v7.
why both ?
- v6 - is in english and works, but they removed the important driver files.
- v7 - are in chinese, kinda english, but have all the needed files for the unlock. (Link 1)
Copy the file “MiUsbDriver.exe” and the folder “drivers” from 7 to 6.
now, start the Mi Unlock tool and instead of logging in, use the barcode in the top right corner.
You scan the Code with the mi account on your phone and then he will promt you and ask for a phone number.
IMPORTANT STEP - you need a valid sim card WITH the ability to send a SMS. At first i used a prepaid card with no charge.
Now you will add your phone to the mi ui account and get granted to unlock the phone.
To go into the Fastboot mode, you have to UNPLUG the phone from the Computer, if you conneted it, and then vol down and power until the fastboot logo comes. then reconnect. You will here a ton but the unlock button is not useable. If that happend, go to the top right corner with the “Settings” sign, here you can install the needed drivers.
now you can unlock your phone or have to replug your phone.
After that is done, wait and try after 3 checkmarks to restart your phone, i had to do it by myself.
Again IMPORTANT:
reboot your device, because your device now have an unlocked bootloader but is locked. so resetart your phone, enter your credentials, go into your mi account on the phone and delete in there the phone out. then, reset the phone or reboot, up to you and follow the flashing instructions.
for the flashing / installing os, you need the following files in the folder, where the os is. like fastboot and adb.
-
SDK Platform-Tools for Windows (you need the files like adb)
