Xiaomi X11 Lite 5g NE compatability

After buying a Xiaomi X11 Lite 5g NE (which was supposed to be compatible with the e/os community install) I tried to do the steps and found that I already tripped over the first step: unlocking the phone. I found a mi-unlock program to download. It gave a popup to the latest version (in chinese) which link was dead. I tried the installed version to find out that it is virtually impossible to enter the proper country code (+31 in my case). It is stuck on +1 and though I can search for Netherlands and find it, the field is grayed out and scrolling through the list is frozen.
I found some alternative ways like using the xiaomi community app and apply for unlock. Unluckily the version I have has that option removed.
So I wonder if there is any way left to unlock the thing ?
And if not, isn;t it about time to remove it from the list ?

You might clarify your progress so far. Xiaomi have become a bit of an expert task to unlock over the past few years and one has to follow the Xiaomi guides quite exactly including facets of the instructions which may not seem intuitive at first reading.

For instance a common blocker can be that the user upgrades to a newer MiUI version and finds that this version will not unlock.

I did experience this once. In this case after my upgrade the solution involved advanced research and replacement of the contents of one partition.
